View Full Version : Where are you all off to/have you been?
noseyrosie 09-08-2004, 13:57 Just back from 2 weeks of rather grand festivalling frolics...coming back to Sheffield nearly made me cry as we drove through Woodseats.
I was at Warwick Folk festival for a weekend, then in Durham for Folkworks Music Summer School, then in Devon for the Golden Jubilee year (and the last ever (!!!)) Sidmouth International Folk Festival! Got a week off then off to London for a week, then Towersey Festival, which is, of course, the best thing ever, then it's term time again. Which won't stop me from going to Bromyard Festival the first weekend back.
But anyhoo. WHere have you all been? Where are you off to?
Agent Orange 09-08-2004, 14:03 I had two weeks in Antigua back in April/May if that counts?! Other than that, nothing planned as yet, but watch this space!
Had a lovely week in Alvor in Portugal in July.
Fab place, lovely weather - highly recommend it!
I went to Prague in April for a weekend, fantastic place with genuinely warm friendly people. And the beer is cheap!
Went to Amsterdam in July for 5 days, which is a mad mad place where trams and bicycles rule. Managed to take in some culture (Van Gogh Museum, Anne Frank House), chilled out in Vondelpark, visited the Red Light District (purely window shopping you understand) and the coffeeshops. Will definitely be going back.
And i'm off to Canada in September for 2 weeks. Flying out on September 11th. oo-er.
neeeeeeeeeek 09-08-2004, 15:54 Went to the Big Chill Festival, Fried about 10million brain cells, apart from that it was all good!
Quite upset as not got anything planned this summer apart from 2 days camping in the lakes next weekend. Oh well, there's always next year. Neeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeek, what was the big chill like? I've always fancied going.
neeeeeeeeeek 09-08-2004, 16:34 The big Chill is Brill. As long as it does not get any bigger! It was busier than last year and they had extended the site. I think making it any larger next year would do it no favours.. Would recomend it to anyone. need a week off to recover though! so much for chilling..
jessycar 09-08-2004, 16:34 I had two weeks in Crete at the beginning of July. It's **** being back :(
Sam Miguel 09-08-2004, 16:42 I recently spent two weeks sitting in a white plastic chair on the Costa Brava.
Click the link at the bottom of this post to find out more.
I went to Alton Towers the other day, does that count?
Draggletail 09-08-2004, 17:06 We where at Sidmouth folk festival too, Nosierosie, we go every year and camp on a farm campsite. We are allowed a huge camp fire, and sit round it drinking beer 'till the early hours. About eight of us go, all from Sheffield.
Did you hear that future Sidmouth festivals are under threat because the organisers want the council to underwrite it to the tune of £250,000 in case bad weather causes a financial loss? The council have only offered £60,000....
benidorm for a week in october, leaving the husband at home and going with the girls....YIPEE........
Im off to Gran Canaria in January
Sam Miguel 09-08-2004, 18:42 I'm going to the shops at the weekend. It will be either Friday evening, or Saturday morning, late-ish. It all depends on how I feel. If I feel particaularly tired, we'll go on Saturday.
I'll let you know how I get on whatever I decide.
cazzaworld 09-08-2004, 21:23 Just got back from a 2 week motorbiking holiday down to the South Of France. Great fun, 1st time abroad too.
Internetowl 09-08-2004, 21:46 I had two weeks in Spain (Barcelona) in June and spent last week in 'dirty' Brid. Brid was great, has a great working harbour! Thats probably what others find as dirty. The town is a damn sight cleaner than Firth Park and surrounding areas.
LoopyLou 10-08-2004, 08:07 Just got back from two weeks backpacking in Italy. Fantastc time the weather was brill and the food was excellent (if you like pizza and pasta, which I do).
The best bit was climbing the Via Ferrata in the Dolomites. Its like rock climbing, but not as difficult. You attach yourself to metal lines and ladders which are in turn fastened to the cliffs. you then work your way along edges and over the tops of mountains feeling a bit scared but very safe.
Also travelled through most of the major cities - Naples, Rome, Florence, Venice, - best bit was the collaseum and the ruins in Pompeii.
That will be it for a couple of years whilst we save up again, unless I can bag a very very very cheap skiing holiday in the winter.
I haven't been on holiday for 8 years, but I'm off to India in October, then on to Nepal, Tibet, Bhutan, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Australia, New Zealand, and South America. Should be away for about 2 1/2 years, hopefully.
I've never been abroad, either - can't wait!
Just back from 2 weeks in a converted tractor shed in Tuscany. I can sympathise with Sam Miguel and his white chair, each morning we'd pore over the guidebooks trying to decide which cultural treasure to visit but eventually end up chilling in the sun.
Highlight, though, was seeing Andrea Boccelli in Tosca at Torre del Lago Puccini.
SatanInHeels 10-08-2004, 13:58 I'm off to Tenerife for a week at the end of august!! Neither me or my boyfriend can wait to get away... both needing to get away from here and spend some time chilling out i think!
i've been to sunny ol' Gran Canaria for 2 weeks last month!!!

Take it you like Folk then?
I've been to Abufeira at the beginning of the year disaster holiday. I don't know where I'm going just see where I end up, best way!
coopster1974 10-08-2004, 18:17 Give me a beach, hot sun and sweet FA to do for a fortnight and im happy.
Had a week in Tenerife in Feb (all inclusive so loads of beer) and off to its neighbour Fuerteventura for a fortnight in October.
Great islands to go to out of season as its still swelteringly hot but its cheaper.
I remember a few years ago sitting in a bar with shorts n tshirt on watching a Wednesday match. It was snowing.
Not had a holiday since New York in March 2001.. Still what ya never had ya never miss...

I went to Magaluf for 4 nights in July and then again for a week in September.
Next year I'm off working overseas for 6 months, then I plan on using up my holiday days to go to a few places (choice between Malia, Magaluf, Kos etc) for the nightlife and pi$$-ups, and aim to go to New York at least once for a few days.
Then next November I'm off to Thailand for 3-4 weeks to train at the Fairtex Muay Thai camp near Bangkok, with my trainer and a few others.

extaxman 12-10-2004, 19:52 Had the best holiday of my life about a month ago, on a six masted motorised five star sailing yacht. No deck scrubbing etc - just sheer absolute luxury, got tired of the lobster and caviar for just about every meal.
Started at Copenhagen, then Latvia, Estonia, St Petersburg (gob smackingly beautiful), Finland then back to Cophenhagen.
Boat was American and best thing about it was that the Americans had paid £3500, we paid £880!
funkyukgal 13-10-2004, 14:01 just come back from a 4 day break in london and brighton
