NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! KYTV was the poor reincarnation of what was Radio Active on Radio 4. Most of the stuff on it was recycled from the Radio Active shows. The radio series was truly hilarious; the TV show was probably the same, unless you'd heard the jokes before .......
Radio Active was a local radio spoof, "Britain's first national local radio station"; KYTV was the spoof of of embryonic SKY.
happyhippy 13-10-2006, 00:00 parody of sky tv with angus deayton it was funny the ky came from sir kieth yellowhammer's name but he couldn't use the s in sir for obvious reasons
Which is why KYS TV never got the go ahead ......... I remember it well ........ not only Angus Deayton in it, but the head of BBC comedy, Geoffrey Perkins was there too, with Helen Atkinson-Wood (did little else), Michael Fenton-Stevens (bit parts in sit coms and the odd advert, oh, and being very rich from writing), and Philip Pope (jingle and theme tune writer extraordinaire).
The Spycatcher special was fantastic .......
Not that I'm a fan .........
happyhippy 13-10-2006, 00:12 Anyway, my top 5 shows/series ..... in no particular order .......
Fawlty Towers (12 half hours of pure genius)
Dangermouse (that cartoon was ALWAYS meant for grown ups)
The Old Grey Whistle Test (ended when I was young - a huge shame)
Dispatches (unerringly good reporting)
The Blue Planet (proof that the license fee is worth paying)
Albatross 13-10-2006, 04:34 Red Dwarf (prefer Claire Grogan as Kochanski tho)
Auf Wiedersehen Pet
And I gotta go along with the happyhippy, Fawlty Towers. Have em all on DVD
bensonhedges 13-10-2006, 06:17 Anything with David Attenborough.
Almost anything with Ronnie Barker.
Big Brother.
Dallas.
News 24.
X-Files
Frasier
Buffy
Friends
Hart to Hart
The early seasons of ER
Blackadder, especially series 2, though they were all excellent.
Red Dwarf (but not the last couple of series with the dreadful 'new' Kochansky- bring back Claire Grogan!)
Chipmunk 13-10-2006, 06:30 Early Doors. Don't think it was that popular but makes me laugh every time I watch it.
Ally_Fraser 13-10-2006, 07:19 Early Doors. Don't think it was that popular but makes me laugh every time I watch it.
Agreed - by far the best of the modern sitcoms, yet it was the office that got all the plaudits!!
I guess it's a northern/southern thing.....?!
But as for the greatest show of all time - Auf Wiedersehen, Pet.
But only the first 2 series..... I liked the 3 new ones they did, but a (almost) politically correct Oz just wasn't the same.
RazorSHarp 13-10-2006, 07:27 Simpsons
Lost
Life on Mars
X-Files
Frasier
Buffy
Friends

Agree with Blackadder and Buffy, would add The Simpsons.
Especially agree with Red Dwarf comments, how off Earth could they replace Claire Grogan:loopy:
emperor_ming 13-10-2006, 07:49 Metal Mickey....
Ally_Fraser 13-10-2006, 07:51 Agree with Blackadder and Buffy, would add The Simpsons.

I didn't particularly like the new Kochanski in red dwarf (Chloe something?) but wasn't Claire Grogan only in it for about 2 episodes early on in it's run?
I didn't particularly like the new Kochanski in red dwarf (Chloe something?) but wasn't Claire Grogan only in it for about 2 episodes early on in it's run?
She was. Maybe a couple more. There's probably an argument for how that's all the Kochanski we needed too.
I didn't particularly like the new Kochanski in red dwarf (Chloe something?) but wasn't Claire Grogan only in it for about 2 episodes early on in it's run?
Chloe Annett.
I think they were scaping the barrel a bit when they brought her back, looking for ideas to liven it up a bit. Claire Grogan probably had better things to do, shame :P

As for old stuff
Rising Damp was great
The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin was top class comedy.
Fawlty Towers was a classic, John Cleese should be Knighted for his services to British comedy IMO... One of the funniest men alive today.
Neighbours and the early Home and Away episodes also rate highly, mid 90s Home and Away had even more totty than current day Neighbours... It had Chloe, Shannon, Sophie, Bobby, her that Dannii Minogue played, and that dark haired one that was Blake Dean's sister or something.. Mmm hmm I would
PuressenceUK 13-10-2006, 22:47 Can't believe I missed this one off but would also HAVE to put in top telly..................
THE CRYSTAL MAZE!

Sod that, Knightmare rocked!
I want to see that new VR version they've made, the link on the Knightmare web site doesn't work.
LordChaverly 14-10-2006, 09:47 The Civil War by Ken Burns is my first choice. It is a masterpiece of documentary filmmaking, which scores very highly indeed on every dimension. It surpasses all others in my view in terms of the skill with which a complex narrative is woven together, using speech, music and photographs from the period. The narrative is also given depth and texture by extensive use of the personal stories of those who were there, told through letters and photographs. This gives the work a human dimension which is often lacking in war documentaries. The elegiac quality of the series is partly due also to the narrator’s voice and unhurried delivery and also to the wonderful soundtrack. In my view the series has taken television history to a new level and one which is unlikely to be surpassed. The irony is that, in my view, American TV is not good at producing high quality documentaries (BBC ones tend to be much better – but the Civil War is a very notable exception).
My second choice would be Crossroads. As a dramatic metaphor for the human condition, it mirrored perfectly the rhythms and texture of contemporary life in a West Midlands motel. It is not widely known that the writer for the series was strongly influenced by Marcel Proust's ‘A la recherché du temps perdu’ and that his overriding aim was to capture the essence of living in an angst-ridden age by exploring the hopes, fears and the cadences and patterns of speech of a varied range of characters. It was no accident that the unfolding drama was set in middle England, which was of course a metaphor for middle earth. The more discerning and perceptive observers will have noted also that the sheer ‘ordinariness’ of certain characters also served as a metaphor for the uniqueness of all human beings. The subtlety of the characterization is exemplified by that of Amy Turtle, whose hidden depths were only hinted at, but nevertheless conveyed to the viewer. Crossroads was, of course, a highly ambitious project, but in my view it worked very well overall on a number of levels and deserves its high place in the roll call of the greatest TV shows of all time.

As you mentioned X-Roads, Lord C, that brings to mind a verse by Eddie Large, mimicking 'Benny', a quasi-intellectual character from that soap whom I suspect some on this forum unwittingly model themselves on... it went as follows...
Miss Diane's a country girl,
Money has she none...
Gaffer, 'E gave oi foive pounds,
and so oi give her one.

Dastardly and Muttley... Classic!
Muttley dooooo something! PMSL!
Sweetcheeks 17-10-2006, 13:02 Far too many to list, but have to agree with LordChaverly that Ken Burns` American Civil War is a masterpiece! I loved Michael Wood`s In Search of The Dark Ages Series, far superior to his later work. Bagpuss is sheer perfection, ageless and so charming. I loved Babylon 5, Farscape and Doctor Who, especially the stories involving Nicola Bryant:love:  and finally, for any other oldie, Quatermass and the Pit, the programme that gave me nightmares as a child, but still a great favourite.
CaptainSwing 17-10-2006, 13:18 David Attenborough's Life on Earth series, for sure (apart from the overly sentimental music, perhaps).
StarSparkle 17-10-2006, 13:53 parody of sky tv with angus deayton it was funny the ky came from sir kieth yellowhammer's name but he couldn't use the s in sir for obvious reasons

But if were talking all time, it has to be the Simpsons, hasn't it?
Alright, I accept its gone wayward in recent years, but any program that can keep going for as long as it has, and remain so consistently funny, has got to be up there with the all time greats.

There's several drinks on offer for anyone who had the foresight to video it when it was on!!!
Please take your caps-lock off - it's regarded as shouting! :)
