just the sampler I'm doing for the boys' xmas fayre, but I love the buzz of a deadline...I haven't even started my xmas cards yet!

Not sure if I mentioned this b4, but I did a large Tiger project for our best man for his birthday.

I'd worked 7 of 9 pages when our rat escaped and ate a huge hole in the middle of it!
I had to start all over again, and missed his birthday by two months :(
He saw the funny side of it, and seemed genuinely pleased with his belated birthday gift

I have been asked to join a group in producing a tri yearly special edition magazine. Then came the bombshell - can I manage 10 projects in time for a January publishing. :help:

That's a lot of work! Depends how big the projects are? Are you not allowed to get someone to help? Sounds like fun though

Ah well, arts & crafts are supposed to be theraputic and leisurely, not a burden

I'm sure he will love it once it is finished, no matter what time of year it is.

You could perhaps make something smaller for christmas?

I'm feeling v smug - have just finished a lovely soft scarf for my mum (but I don't know how to cast off - anyone ?) and I've also just finished painting vegetables onto some stones to give to my dad as vegetable markers for his allotment.

HI mc55

You might find this (http://www.aokcorral.com/projects/howcastoff.htm) link helpful for casting off.

You might want to come and join us int he Knitting group also, where there are alot of folks happy to help with any knitting questions :)

I'm making a scarf (how rubbish is that?) and it's taking forever. At the same time I'm thinking I will be v upset if my friend doesn't like it and the yarn was really expensive so perhaps I should have just bought something from a shop like everyone else!

thanks BFY, will check out the link. Its the first thing I've knitted for years, and like Vicky I was surprised to find that you can buy similar items for a lot less than it cost to make !

Fun though and very satisfying.

a handmade gift is made with love and caring and is worth so much more than money

I'll agree with that, although I have found that the people who are crafters themselves appreciate the time and effort that goes into the gift far more than non-crafters

Yes Hayley, you're right they do but I always feel better myself if i've given someone a homemade gift regardless of how they feel about it lol. Many people think that if it's handmade then it's cheap, when in fact it's usually more expensive!

absolutely! for the price of a single cross stitched card, you could probably buy a few dozen! lol

I agree, but then it's not because of cost that we do all these crafts is it? I do loads of different crafts, such as making beaded jewellery, cross stitch etc etc, and I love the look on a friend's face when I give them a piece of jewellery I've designed to match their new outfit, or when I give my blind grandmother a cross stitch card that she can feel the textures on......
