View Full Version : When and where do you wish you could have lived?
CockneyMafia 12-10-2006, 15:23 An ex girlfriend once said to me
"I was born at the wrong time. I wish I could have lived in the 19th Century as the Lady of Shalott"
It got me thinking?
Is there a period of time you wish you could have lived in?
Personally I would have liked to have lived in Charles Dickens times and witnessed his London with my own eyes. Not the poor London mind. I have a dismal pre-occupation with owning a Georgian Townhouse complete with dumbwaiter. No doubt Mr Fogg of Burlington Gardens would number amongst my closest acquaintances.
Failing that, the turn of the Industrial revolution, and the shift of largely Agrarian community to urban populations would have been a fascinating, if not somewhat bewildering period of our history.
What about anyone else?
ooo theres so many fascinating periods through out history i would have loved to lived, scotland in the highlands, victorian times , tudor, loads really but i would like to have lived as both a rich and a poor person to get all sides :)
Medieval times.
I certainy would NOT want to be born in this Country nowadays.
bagpuss29 12-10-2006, 15:34 American Old Western times1865-1900 i would of liked to be some one like Calamity Jane
France at the time that Dangerous Liaisons was set, or when Versailles was built.
Obviously I would also be fabulously wealthy, not some common scrubber, and have loads of debauched affairs.
I would have liked to have lived in Milton Keynes in 1987.
BobbyBunny 12-10-2006, 16:03 I would have liked to have lived in Victorian times, and I'd like to have been a rich Victorian lady. (Who was sold into marriage and had about fifteen children.)
I think I'm pretty happy where I am. Most of the time. I'd like to see the future though. The future should be fun, unless we all die from a nuclear bomb.
weenireeni 12-10-2006, 16:10 id liked to have lived in pride and prejudice times, when all i had to think about was wearing tight corsets and bagging a rich man
:D

You can wear tight corsets in 2006 and it will probably have the same effect.

i lurve calam, the film is great!
id like to be able to go and live a day in each period in time.
It's kinda eery that someone else have thought of the same idea.
I used to think it'll be great if I lived in the 60s. With songs from the likes of Tony Bennets, and A-line skirts was all the rage. I like the dancing too. It's quite fun.
Either that, or I should be living in Italy. People are quite passionate and exaggerates a lot. It's kinda funny, but quite endearing. :D
"Oooo, ahhh. Bella Bella !"
"Muah Muah."
"I went to the dentist today."
"Noooooooo."
You know, that of thing. lol.
Probably the seventies most recently, but would have loved to have been around when the pirates were around. Also America with the Indians. Sorry not too good at dates didn't do history!

Got to agree would also like to have been in the corset and flowing gown era.

I read that on the old western wagon trails the most important person and the highest paid one was the cook himself.
camping_gaz 23-10-2006, 19:05 somewhere in the future were war religion and bad housing and money are things of the passed were health is the only wealth
Jabberwocky 23-10-2006, 19:08 Yesterday.
You have to remember that before at least the 1950s, life was hard, dirty, full of pain, brutal and often short.
HappyHoosier 23-10-2006, 19:19 Definitely the 1920s... Bobbed hair, dropped waists and cloche hats. Speakeasys and bathtub gin. Dancing the Charleston. And votes for women!
pattricia 23-10-2006, 20:07 I believe the 50s & 60s were the best times to live. Frank Sinatra,Dean Martin,Bobby Darin,Sammy Davies Jnr,Perry Como,beehive hairstyles,mini-skirts,stylleto heels,Mary Quant,Hippies,The Beatles,Rolling Stones,I mean "Who could ask for anything more ?"
At 63 I think I have lived in the best generation we have ever had on this planet, best music, plenty of work, the cane & we learned to respect others,
to be honest, I wouldn't change a thing as it has made me appreciate what I have today & given me many happy memories.
I spent my first 27 years growing up in Sheffield & dreaming of palm trees, deserted beaches & the Pacific ocean, for the last 36 years I've been living that dream, why should I ever die as I'm already in heaven ?
