The tram set up is just silly and doesn't help one bit. It wont be long until they star knocking down buildings to widen the road. annaO 08-08-2004, 14:13 here, here!! it's been a joke for ages now, and it really does need looking into. especially getting up parkside road to get through to wadsley/outibridge area. the traffic lights don't seem to all work together to get traffic moving. so yes, i agree it's getting beyond a joke. silverknight 08-08-2004, 14:19 I often wonder if it would be better to have a contraflow system for traffic to/from north sheffield i.e use Penistone road into Sheffield during morning and traffic coming out of City between 7 and 9am use Langsett road and during the evening Peak 4 to 6pm the opposite way. As work is due to start on the new north inner relief road this is going to be a major bottle neck for at least 2 years construction work is planned. Buses to have one side of dual carriage way perhaps? I think one of the main problems is traffic control centre in the city not phasing the traffic lights correctly as some days it a stop/start every 200yards for all traffic at present. Magneteer 08-08-2004, 14:22 It's a darn sight better than it was pre-tram when it used to get completely chocka, however, some basic policing could improve things no end. I think one of the main probs is selfish parking, especially on Bradfield Rd where people routinely park on double yellows to use the cash dispensers, wait for the missus with the shopping etc, not giving a toss about other traffic then forced to manoeuvre around them, making a 3 lane road into 1 lane. This all has a knock on effect and thus affects the free flow of traffic. Get a couple of coppers/traffic wardens mercilessly dishing out tickets and the problem could be sorted easily. |
