View Full Version : Tonight I gazed at the stars and thought?
bulldog D 07-08-2004, 23:44 YEP! tonight I gazed at the stars as i casually languished half way out of the french windows( not to casually just in case I fell out after all the fench beer I've just drank) and thought I am so F*****G lucky!
and why not ?
The weather is great!
All the bills are paid!
The kids are doing brilliant!
There's bread on the table and beer in the fridge,
saddest thing, the wifes on night duty! and when i gaze at those stars I can't help but wonder, if there's been millions of billionns of chances to create everything in the universe as we now know it, or think we do!
what were the chances of me meeting her, and discovering a happy and fulfilling eternity.
These were just a few thoughts that rattled around the old cerebral cortex whilst star gazing.
What have been your recent star induced thoughts if any?
I read your post just after reading this post

Two extremes of life in Sheffield.....
My life mirrors yours, great job, great family, good health and life gets better as I get older. Is everything preordained or do we get the life we deserve. Who knows ? Being an atheist I don't praise the lord but I do consider myself to be very lucky with the way my life has turned out so far :)
Phanerothyme 08-08-2004, 00:33 I look up at the stars a lot. when i can.
Mostly My thoughts tend towards - in this solar system, of which there are billions, in this galaxy, of which there are billions, in this local group of which there are...many, all human endeavour, all tragedy and joy, ecstasy and pain, all creations and cultures will happen in the briefest of moments, and then another star will wink out.

Sam Miguel 08-08-2004, 10:50 This sort of thing - apart from acting daft - is one of my favourite pastimes. Yes, I too am very content with my lot. I love my wife, my son, my brothers, my sisters-in-law, my nephews, my nieces and my little hamster.
I love my meagre house, my meagre garden, and my new job.
Being made redundant in March has turned out to be one of the best things that ever happened to me, and I still have the nice fat cheque in the bank. Lovely stuff.
I gaze up into space often and think how lucky I am to have what I have. Life isn't so bad and all that.
I also often gaze horizontally at a point somewhere between here and there and float off to some place that's not here.
Too weird.

Sadly there is little to see in the sky these days. Light polution is now so bad you're unlikely to be able to see any but the brightest stars. I've been lucky enough to see the night sky hundreds of miles from land, both in the north Atlantic and the south Pacific and it's a breathtaking sight not to be forgotten.
Beastieboy 08-08-2004, 13:54 I like to look up at the stars and wonder about things and stuff, it is quite annoying that when I look up there is a large orange glow in the sky (no it's not the sun but light pollution) :( The last time I looked up I burnt my toast that I forgot about.

What is it all about? The great big universe - what does it all mean?
Then I thought "It's got beggar all to do with me" and went back to bed
LittleWitch 10-08-2004, 12:28 I wonder how many other people are looking at this exact same sky, all over the world - who they are, what they are doing, the sounds they can hear, and the thoughts they are having.
Fascinating.
