View Full Version : HELP! My Phone went to the toilet!
mr.blaze 10-10-2006, 14:02 Last night after coming in a bit worse for wear my phone decided to take an impromptu dive for a closer look down the toilet. Now it appears to charge but won't turn on. I've got about 250 numbers that aren't backed up that are vital to me on there. Can anyone help me? Pretty please....
Sometimes they can be dried out using Methalated spirits and Ultrasonic.
It's a repair shop job though.

Cheers for that, I've tryed drying it using a hair dryer but it still prefers to vibrate constantly with no display. What's more annoying is I've got a replacement phone but I haven't been using it as I haven't got round to putting the numbers onto it yet.
I just put the heating on and laid it on a towel in the hall for a day for dry out- make sure you give it a good shake first to drive out any remaining clumps of water in there.
after that mine was fine!

Thanks Scott, it's nice to know you got a good result! It's also nicer knowing I'm not the only dummy to have done it :hihi:
I think the most important bit is to rinse the phone very carefully to make sure that there's no contaminant that can crystallise out and gloop up the interior.
It's not like you'd wash it on purpose, but now that it's wet, it really could do with being clean and wet.
My lad did his work experience in a computer shop last year.
It is not 100%, but to have a fair chance you need to have it done like I said earlier with ultrasonic if it is that important.
These pieces of kit are not cheap to buy, but used quite a bit.
sheffdan 10-10-2006, 18:05 Always best to save your numbers to your sim card

No it's not.
We had one (Sony) go through an entire wash cycle.
Stuck it in the airing cupboard for 4/5 or 6 days (can't remember exactly).
Still working to this day:thumbsup:.
sheffdan 10-10-2006, 18:54 Keep your phones out of the toilet! You dont need it while your having a wee etc! :hihi:

If you have under 90 numbers yeah, but when you get into the hundreds it's not possible. It is however good to back your numbers up.
P.S Some people need their phones in the toilet.
An old Nokia of mine once took a dive into a garden pond, took it to bits, left it to dry and its still working to this day!
Just realised I do a lot of texting on the closet, maybe I should get some kind of safety harness.... for my mobile... not me.
ghettostan 11-10-2006, 08:22 my cousin found a fone on the path..(this is in another country btw and 2yrs ago) and the whole fone was under the water and must have been there for more than 5mins, he took it home and took it apart and left it to dry then put it back together and till now i think it still works
I dropped mine in the sink a while ago. Took the covers off, removed SIM card and left in a warm place all day - worked fine.
upinwath 11-10-2006, 11:40 if it is taken to the repair shop tell them it's been down the toilet so they can decide if to take it in.
We used to get stuff like that and it's not nice.
It also has the chance of being dangerous to the technician.
commuter 11-10-2006, 11:56 my mate's wife deep fried her phone by accident :) everything worked except the little plastic cone in the earpiece

Actually if you have a fairly new sim card these can hold upto 250 numbers.
steve_sufc 11-10-2006, 18:33 Remember to rub the poo off the screen as well - it should help you see the numbers more clearly.

The one that went through the wash here was the same at first after 2-3 days (in that the phone would light up, etc. but not display anything). Left it a bit longer in the cupboard and all functions were returned to normal:thumbsup:
