View Full Version : My First Finished Sock!
Woohoo! I've finished my first sock yey!
Kitchner stitch abit  but i got there in the end!
I'm very happy with it but i wonder if it's partner will be finished before xmas  :P
Heres a couple of pics

Sock Pic 3 (http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g51/rooty2/DSCN0958.jpg)
PS. If you can see any hairy leg on that pic, its photographic trickery...honest :D
beansforyou 09-10-2006, 20:27 Woot! they look fab, i've still not done a sock :suspect:
I thought it was a legal requirement to have hairy legs when doing sock shots? ;)
That looks excellent! See, it wasn't that bad, was it? ;)
Just a note about the yarn; when I first made mine, I thought they were a little itchy (I'm a delicate little flower :hihi:). After a few times in the wash with fabric conditioner (just chucked in with the rest of the wash - thank God for machine-washable yarn!), they're really soft. Not as soft and lovely as the more posh (and expensive) merino wool, but I never expected that anyway.
You've got to finish its partner before it gets much more into winter. It's an essential knitting requirement to wear hand-knitted socks when it's chilly. I think it's the law, actually.
Beans, you're falling behind. Get those DPNs/circular needles out :P .
Rooty. WOW. Well done an welcome to the sock club!!
There's a definite nip in the air so flee on with it's partner. You'll feel so special when you are wearing your own hand made socks. I promise.
Lucy-Lastic 10-10-2006, 09:14 That looks brilliant - well done:D I love that colourway. BTW was going to ask about this 6ply yarn ask it recommends 3 balls - do you really need 3 balls? I really fancy doing some knitting where Im not trying anything new and dont NEED to really concentrate IYKWIM.

Thanx for the lovely comments. I was wearing it all last night lol, so yes i've got to get on with the other or i'll look abit strange. I found them a little itchy but not too bad, but i'll make sure i use plenty of fabric conditioner when they're washed.
Lisa - I used one whole ball up when i was in the middle of the toe decreases, so unfortunatley you do need 3 balls but just for a tiny bit. If you decide to knit jungle or nordic (http://www.mcadirect.com/shadecards/reg6p.htm) i could help you out as i have some spare thanks to Hecate who sent me some of her left over yarn to practice on. I've got more than enough for jungle and probably enough for the nordic one without you buying 3 instead of 2. Let me know if you want some :) i quite like 'passion' so if i do another pair i think i'll do that.

Is it really only a tiny bit - could I make the leg slightly shorter? I do like the jungle . What size needles are you using btw? hmmmmm:suspect:
I suppose you could make the leg slightly shorter, never thought of that lol! But really its no trouble for me to post some on to you. I've especially got plenty of jungle anyway as i brought 3 balls and the ball hecate sent me of jungle had plenty on it.
Needle size used was 3.5mm

Does the Regia 6 ply come with a pattern - if not what did you use?
beansforyou 10-10-2006, 20:24 My dpn's have the second glove of a pair my dad has asked for, after trying on my fetching gloves :suspect:
They are black though with none of that 'fancy' stuff
Lisa - When you go on the McA direct website on Regia theres a free pattern you have to add to your basket its on this (http://www.mcadirect.com/shop/index.php/cPath/53?osCsid=6e2e1eff36bb2ef03c9acc3e0eb584ca) page where you select 4 ply/6 ply so if you buy from that site, make sure you add it.
Beans - My boyfriend took a liking to my fingerless gloves and wants some without fancy stuff but is not impressed that i can't just add some finger bits to them. I was absolutley mortified though yesterday when he very quickly and roughly shoved my recently knitted (-with great care) fetching glove for my mum on his fat hands. :o
Well i finished its 'partner' tonight! :D
I was encouraged by you lot to get on with it so have been knitting while watching tv most of the time since last week. I love 'em! There so not identical but i like that! I didn't match the yarn up deliberatley, because i like odd socks and i didn't wanna waste yarn doing that (as i practiced knitting in the round for the first time with this yarn) plus stuff like that bugs my mum :P i deliberately wear odd socks sometimes when i go back home to annoy my mum - i'm such a lovely daughter...honest :P
Lucy-Lastic 17-10-2006, 09:31 Thats brilliant Rooty - see theres nothing to socks is there (well except the Elfines grumble):D
No, i don't know what i was fretting about :P
I actually like knitting in the round now, it will feel abit boring going back to two needles that feel huge compared to dpn's. Although at the minute the baby cardi is on a circular as i still love addi turbos so its being knitted on that. and my only other work due to go on the needles is the second fetching for my mum which has got to be done for next tuesday.
Lisa have you ordered your regia 6ply yet? what colour have you decided to go with? i'm definitley hoping to do 'passion' soon for a friend...i think, even though i'd like them :)
Seeing as i've just uploaded some photos anyway here are the finished socks (http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g51/rooty2/DSCN0973.jpg) together, notice the oddness of stripes :o :D
They look fantastic! You'll be doing strange sock knitting things with the Addi Turbos soon :suspect: .

Magic loop with Addi turbos is easy:D Im going to have a go with doing socks on 2 circulars soon aswell:hihi:
BTW I started my 6ply jungle sock last night (after kitchenering the dragon sock) for a bit of light relaxation of a sock with no patterning so you dont need to concentrate .... well not till the heel and toe - just did the ribbing but it does knit up nice and quick (had to stop for a bit during Holby City as I couldnt see past the tears - it was very sad:( )

Don't listen to her, Rooty. She's trying to lure you to the dark side where DPNs are banished :o .
Cool! I love knitting socks, they're lots of fun.
Did you do it with the magic self striping wool? That stuff is very clever:)
Lucy-Lastic 18-10-2006, 10:44 Don't listen to her, Rooty. She's trying to lure you to the dark side where DPNs are banished :o .
No thats not true at all - Im doing the dragon socks and the 6ply ones on dpns! Circulars are a nice way of knitting socks though if you can get the hang of them;)
Hi Becky, yeah done with regia 6ply self striping sock yarn. I'm very pleased with the results :D
The first pair of socks I made came out different lengths, I'm sure I counted very carefully  There's no stopping me now though...
I think I'll try something else with that wool too, maybe a baby cardigan. It's good stuff!
