My SIL asked for a pair of knitted socks for Christmas, Simple I thought, then came the bomb shell. She wants them to have soles so that she can wear them as slippers! Does anyone know where I could obtain these and what's the best way to attach them to the socks? I've done a search on google but haven't used the right keywords yet because I'm not getting what I want.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Guys.

I've got a pattern somewhere knocking about.
IIRC you can use Suede Elbow pads (like on the jumpers teachers always wore?) and cut them so that the larger bit goes on the sole of the foot and the smaller for the heel area.
*edit: if you've got Aprils Simply Knitting issue 13, there is a great pattern for making boot slippers, which gives you all the instructions for making up with the elbow patches. if you haven't got it and would like the instructions pm me :)
I thought there was a Fiber Trends pattern, but the one I was thinking of is the one for felted clogs here (http://www.getknitted.com/acatalog/Felting_.html) (scroll down).
I'll have a hunt to see if I can find something.
Aaargh I saw something like this the other day and cant remember where - I will have a look and get back to you. For a non slip bottom though you could paint on some of that puffy paint to make them look totes like:D
These (http://www.fleming.flump.net/~webofwoo/shop/product.php?xProd=249&xSec=36) werent the ones but might be ok. Im sure its in an email at home might have to look later:(
We use something like this: http://www.stonyhillfiberarts.com/footwear/soles.asp and crochet the the slipper part onto it.
Not exactly non slip if that is what you want, but at least it's a natural fibre and better for feet, especially little feet if that's what it's for.
Aha knew Id find what I had seen. Would these (http://www.getknitted.com/acatalog/Felting_.html) from Get Knitted be useful? ooops just saw that Hecate already sent that link :hihi:
or if you want moccasin style soles you could try these (http://www.marrhaven.com/slpsoxsoles.html)
or Martha Stewart suggests trying this (http://www.marthastewart.com/page.jhtml?type=content&id=channel191881&catid=cat268&navLevel=)
I think you could get a piece of suede and cut into foot shape then stitch around it (kind of oversew) like these (http://www.amazon.com/Mukluks-Leather-Slippers-Apparel-Accessory/dp/B000E73UGA)
Still like the Web of Wool footprints though:wink:
You guys are amazing. Thanks for all the input, I like the web of wool footprints best of all but the get knitted soles would do just as well. That's another christmas pressie in the offing.
