If this helps my DVD player is a Sony model no: DVP - NS330 Cheers!!! Rich 06-08-2004, 09:00 Why not just buy a proper multi-region player, they're like 40 quid from shops like WH Smiths nowadays. Sony 06-08-2004, 09:04 Because ive just bought this one like 2 months ago!! ToryCynic 06-08-2004, 09:07 If it is one of those "cheap-o" makes that are designed to be multi-region, then you can usually get the codes off of the internet. However, if it is a I.e £250 all-singing-and-dancing Region 2 Panasonic or something like that, then I doubt you can make that muti-region. Alex neeeeeeeeeek 06-08-2004, 09:38 post the make and model number and we can investigate eviljock 06-08-2004, 09:39 Have a look at http://www.avforums.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-109317.html If you Google search on "SONY DVP NS330 multiregion hack" you get quite a few hits. From reading the link above however it seems you need to invest in a different remote control. wibbles 06-08-2004, 10:10 You will void the warranty by hacking it though..just a warning  Hodge 06-08-2004, 12:44 Loads of remote hacks on http://www.dvd.reviewer.co.uk However, Sony models generally need chipping, and can't be made multi region with a code entered using the remote control. The website contains forums though, where you can ask about specific relaible companies who will chip your machine for you. Hope that helps. Sony 06-08-2004, 16:28 Cheers you all for all this info!! Doesn't seem that easy does it!! Rich 06-08-2004, 16:52 Is hacking your DVD player legal?! You should think of that. Sony 07-08-2004, 11:35 Originally posted by Rich Is hacking your DVD player legal?! You should think of that. OH BOG OFF Rich 07-08-2004, 11:56 Originally posted by Sony OH BOG OFF Oh shut it... *sigh* Kids today, no respect for their elders :loopy: And don't come whining to me if you got done for illegally hacking your DVD player. slh73 07-08-2004, 11:57 Originally posted by Rich Is hacking your DVD player legal?! You should think of that. Of course its legal. Once youve paid for it, its yours to do as you wish with it. And youre not actually "hacking" anything anyway. If the player wasnt meant to be made mult-regional, the manufacturer wouldnt have included the ability to make it that way in the players software. Besides which, dont you think the police have got better things to do than arresting people on suspicion of altering the software in their DVD player? :loopy: alchresearch 08-08-2004, 20:04 Players are made multi-region so that manufacturers only have to make one type. They are coded to a particular region the same time that the power supply is inserted. The only time you are probably breaking the law is if you are buying and playing films destined for other countries. Most pirate DVDs are set to region zero and will play on all players. eviljock 09-08-2004, 08:31 As to the legality, Sony recently won a High Court ruling on the chipping of its PlayStation consoles, quote: "The selling of "mod chips" for Sony PlayStation 2 game consoles has been ruled illegal by a UK high court. A PlayStation 2 with a modified chip installed can play imported or pirated copies of the console's video games. " However, the same case was thrown out in Italy and Spain. Trust the UK courts to take the side of big business. [/B] I don't think buying or playing these 'items' is illegal actually. Its the selling of them or putting them on for public consumption thats illegal - under breach of copyright act. alchresearch 09-08-2004, 12:16 It's a very grey area of the law. The film classification has not been approved for this country, so what may be a PG13 in the US may be a 15 here. There's also the issue of it being sent as a 'gift' to avoid paying import duties! BUT, people wouldn't buy from abroad if this country sold things for reasonably. I have seen dozens of discs on dvdboxoffice that are cheaper and have more extras, or film. Andy78 10-08-2004, 10:50 Why do they lock DVD players to one region? Is it so they can then make people pay more for a multi region player that costs the same amount to make? You know, designed to stop people pirating imported movies Well if DVD release dates were universal on both sides of the big Pond, we wouldn't HAVE to import :loopy: Andy78 10-08-2004, 11:13 Originally posted by Phanerothyme It's basically an attempt to monopolise DVD distribution channels. Digital Millenium Copyright Act. Scary, huh? It's coming here too. Watch out for that one. alchresearch 10-08-2004, 19:52 Originally posted by Andy78 Thereby making sure that British peeps still pay over the odds for their DVDs? Or buy pirate copies, which are region 0 and will play on all players. |
