View Full Version : Ex Waltheof School pupils
alicooke2009 16-03-2009, 21:13 I didn't know he had died so early on.Yes,he was probably the best teacher there. The only one I can remember who never had to resort to using fear as a teaching method.Unlike those maths teachers!I still shake when faced with a maths problem.I might have known you...
Does anybody know Brian Jacobs? I'm sure he went to Waltheof late 50's early 60's. He's an old mate of mine and used to live on Fairfax Rd on the Manor.
Hi, I went to waltheof in 84 to 89.
would love to hear from anyone who knew me.
my name was Zahra Hunaishi, bck then.
yes i went in the year, an left 89
Hi
i was at Waltheof 74-79 and remember Mr Wilson fondly. i thought he was a great teacher and i loved English lessons. I was in the middle band of pupils but he thought i should be in the top band and had me moved up. Only downside is i didnt enjoy English lesssons as much with the new teacher.I was there during your time and mr wilson was a great guy.
i attended waltheof in the 70s and left in 1978. pals included steve barratt, dave brooke , paul charlsworth, pete carter, jeff barton.
Yes is was there and I remember most of the above. The headmaster was JJ Pothelswaite (unsure of spelling) Mr Marshall Deputy head and Miss Sarson was incharge of the girls
I went to Waltheof between ’68 and ’72. Left when Alice Cooper was No 1 with School’s Out. Yes there was a load of sadists and child abusers masquerading as teachers. I saw Cooper punch one lad in the stomach for not backing his books. Nothing unusual in his class. I’m convinced that “Dynamo”Doug Digby From TV’s the Grimley’s was based on Ray Ranson, the sideburns, the little sports car, the vicious punishment’s and his fancy for female teachers. A “big man” among children. I once lashed him in the face with my studs in the scrum when playing Rugby, I pretended I didn’t know he was there, but really I did. He swore at me, but couldn’t do much else. Ben Holland, amusing loonatic. Matt Marshall, Pop. Sarson all abused their position and today they’d be in court, but I don’t think it did me any harm. No real complaints. My recollection of Pop was him standing at the top of the steps at break times shouting WHAAY! LITTLE BOY! GET OFF THOSE PEBBLES! That and the fact that when they walked into a classroom, we all had to stand and whoever was nearest the door had to stand holding the door. Pathetic.
I was in Mr Tunnard’s very first class, and I remember saying hello to him on his first morning like he was a pupil because he looked so fresh faced and innocent. He was a good teacher and there were others. Mawson with his invisible Parrots was fun. Had some great mates. Pete Barlow, Phil Shirt, Dave Waller, John Smalley, Johnathon Lynne, Steve Kynoch, Ken Stinchcombe. Saw Ken in B&Q recently. The shock of blonde hair gone, now bald. Some top girls in our year, Julie Caley is mentioned earlier. I always remember her with her friend Kathleen Smith who was equally lovely, but also Cheryl Brookes, Janine Cartwright, Marie Knight, Bridget Camfield, Barbara Howard, Jane Shaw, Diana Burton and Anne Rogers were all top girls. Eye candy. We were spoiled. Does anyone remember the kid who used to do Mick Jagger impressions after school? The biggest surprise ever at Waltheof was that Kev Burns wasn’t head boy. To me it was written in stone from day 1.
Seeing the names of some of those teachers brings back memories from my time there between 1984-88 (straight from Greenlands, formerly Whitby Rd)... Bavelja the martial arts expert was form tutor for a while, and then I think Miss Brown. The likes of Graney, Atkins, Ellis, Shemeld, Mr Blaby in his language lab, Mr Christie, Goodrum, Wainwright and Griffin... Mr Ballard was the maths teacher and was seen as cool compared to the other teachers (at least in his own head!), and one i've not seen mentioned was the lovely Miss Hurst, one of the Humanities teachers in the old tower block - certainly one of the more popular teachers for many reasons...
I seem to think Mr Hull took over as Head there, then I think Mr Goodier was around the time of the fire? I also seem to remember a Mr Wise as Head, but that could've been from Greenlands... for those who went to Greenlands, do you remember Mr Albaya... what a scary teacher!
kathryn_1956 01-08-2009, 16:06 I went to Waltheof Comp left in 72 my favorite teacher was Ian Tunnard. I hated Mr Cooper and Mr Batty (physics) now he was a sadist. Went back there to live many years later when my husband became caretaker there, we were there the night of the fire, turns out they think it was an electrical fault!

did you know my cousin shirley needham she left 1971 or 1972
In the early summer of 1972, a few weeks before I left, they took a coach load of us out on day trip into the countryside. Mr Batty drove the coach. Before we left the playground, one lad, I won’t name him, was asked to guide the coach backward. He guided it back right into a bollard. Good start. We got into the countryside and then Mr Batty pulled the gear stick out of the gearbox. I saw him do it. The coach, now knackered was taken away and we had to walk For the rest of the day across countryside, mountains, rivers, mires withh insects biting us in what was baking heat. None of us had come prepared for a hike, we hadn’t been told to bring food or drink, so only one or two had brought a bottle of pop which was shared round fraternally. In fact, the spirit among us was really good even though we had no idea of where we were or what was happening, No one had a map. We were totally unprepared.
I can’t remember who the teacher was who stayed with us overland, I’m convinced she was female, but Mr Batty disappeared with the coach. Eventually we made our way to Foxhouse where eventually the repaired coach turned up, picked us up and took us back to school. You could look at it and think “Disaster” but I remember the good natured humour and friendliness that came out that day. Anyone else remember this?
Finally, we used to see Mr Batty regularly at Hillsborough because he was in the brass band that played before each match.

Hi! Pat
I see your name pop up on links every now and then as well as Susan Hagues.
I left Waltheof about the same time to go to City Grammar.
I was only there for about two years but I do remember you.
Its always made me wonder what ever happened to all the people we all knew back then.
A friend out here had a theory as we were the Baby Boomers we were the first generation that rebelled and did not follow the tracks of our parents and some misguided therories of teachers.
Most of our era in the early sixties did start off that way, apprentices or what ever. Then soon moved from what had been standards for the preceding generation.
I remember when I first went to Waltheof and it was a bit of a shock, there were pupils there who had never been out of Sheffield.
My father was in the RAF and we had travelled all over and what's worse I didn't have a Sheffield accent.
There were two fourth year girls in conversation that I overheard and it was as though I was listening to their Mothers. They seemed to have all the gestures and phrases of years gone by.
But how things started to change!
It does not stop me thinking of days that are gone and wondering, where and what became of them, all the people I once knew.
I have long lists of names!!!
Pat grayson 17-10-2009, 20:51 hi there this is pat here please let me know who you are i would like to contact old friends you may know some of the same people as me

A few more names,Florence Barker,Margaret Stocker,Joyce Hogg, Martin Hodkin.
We lived on Basford, same side as the Ball Inn one of the the detached houses then we moved to Richmond at the side of the park
Looking back after all this time I was at Waltheof for about eighteen months over a two year period, but at the time it seemed like ages.
I started in Marshalls class then Sarson then Battersby then out the door to Stradbrook (City Grammar)
Pat grayson 18-10-2009, 19:03 hi there afriend of mine lived on basford street beverley foster i was there when miss sarson was she was a bitch with myself and my mates how old are you if you dont mind me asking i am 61 years young
hi there afriend of mine lived on basford street beverley foster i was there when miss sarson was she was a bitch with myself and my mates how old are you if you dont mind me asking i am 61 years young
I am 62 birthday end of July also end of school year so I was always a year behind.
I had Sarson worked out and luckily I had a double-barrel name so she thought I was from a snobbish family.
She was a real snob and always did her shopping in Walsh's, so I dropped it out that we had just returned from London where we had been to Harrods and Selfridges and had the paper carrier bags to prove it!Boy! Was she impressed when I gave them to her.
We once had to do Shaws' Pygmalion as part of English Lit.
Of course she took the role of Eliza Doolittle, but I had the role of Henry Higgins! Not having a Sheffield accent had its good sides now and then.Boardering on teachers pet.
It was astonishing the amount of cruelty that was a daily occurrance at that place.I once saw Sarson slap one of the fourth year girls across the face for something really trivial.
Good and bad days!
Pat grayson 19-10-2009, 08:33 hi there if you lived on basford street do you know my mate beverley foster miss sarson was a bitch she picked on me every day head master was postleswaite excuse spelling what is time difference where you are

When we moved to Sheffield we were on Basford for a short time before moving to Richmond,so I did not really get to know anyone around us and sorry I did not know Beverly.
We knew people over the back of us on Darnall Drive, the Monks family and the Ketterings.
Right now we are ten hours in front of you,but next week when your clocks go back we shall be eleven hours in front. So mid-day here will be 1 am in Sheffield.

hi, i left in 77 and too have great memories. My favourite teacher from this period was the music teacher who had hs class in the terrapin buildings across the yard once did an imprimtu(mr evans i think his name was). He used to allow me and my mates to play the guitars at lunch times..we once did a small gig at one of the summer fairs and some nice person decided to slice throught all my electric guitar strings with a stanly knife during the interval. I didnt think we were that bad..lol.. I ended up being head boy which was no major feat considering where i was brought up. When my kids were younger for some reason i took them to have a look around the school grounds one weekend the very next week it was burned down....
My close mates back then were, doug haig, mick garvey, brian headford, neil elliot, kev fiander, kev critchley, most of whome i still see and keep intouch although i now live in dubai.. I went out with anne faram at the time but we havent spoken since the 5th year whe we broke up. First loves always leave a lasting impression..paul fletcher
hiya fletch fancy finding you on here hey do you remember the bands name ... Circular 4 ... Ha! I have checked out some of the posts on here but there are only a couple of people i recognise i bet most of our year are probably dead ... Ha! I also read that pop was still kicking around well last year anyway ... Top bloke really and i suppose most of them were just takes time for you to realise.anyway i'll send jules a message telling her i've been on here then you can look it up ... Bit like back to the future.oh yes and dougs back soon from portugal might be having him doing some work for us if all goes well.speak soon ... Mikey g
you forgot Mr Knight the woodwork teacher.
l keep seing Waltheof school linked to Whitby road school, are they one and the same?
l left Whitby in 1950 and England in 1956 so have lost track.
whitby road, and darnall church schools were moved to waltheof in 1960.
Being one of the first pupils to enter waltheof. I and my fellow pupils were in awe. This was a magnificent building to us. We left Whitby Road to attend this school. I was 14 at the time and only had a year to go. However, This was more like a borstal than a school. OK kids may have it very easy and leniant now. But then we were really afraid of teachers. We had shoe inspections. Hands and nails, Feet, Clothes were expensive at that time but, We were even punished if we were not dressed suitable. Punishments were harsh. The reasons for punishment especially with Mr. Marshall were so petty. He was one that would always find a reason to cane a pupil. Then we had the hidden abuse, Much of this was sexual and degrading. But we lived in a time when we dare not open our mouths. Many of those teachers from the early 60's would certainly face long terms in jail if they were still alive today. We were well educated because we were afraid what would happen if we got the answers wrong. Fear was the weapon then.
i dont remember anything like that ,then my form teachers were marshall & sarson, and we never had to wear uniforms the two years i was there.
I guess you must have have been in the year above me judging by the names you recall.
I was there for two years then shipped out to another school, but I do remember the names very well.
You may reacall the Head Boy, Geoff Ray and what about Carol Hart(very pretty).
Maybe Donald Lees or Ron Nelson perhaps David Allott they were not in my year but I do remember them very well.
CF8M
David Allott was headboy, and left in 1962 to join Haydon Nilos as a fitter, while I became an electrician.Funny enough I was asked to be a prefect, but I refused to wear a tie.So they put me in charge of the milk.Lovely racket.
Pat grayson 21-11-2009, 08:16 hi this is pat here i cant remember you by name you may remember my brother mick grayson he is about your age iam a bit younger than you miss sarson was a right bitch with myself and my mates we might have deserved it as we were a bit rough i can recall mr marshall mr grundy head teacher polthlswaite miss mawson
Kate France 27-12-2009, 23:42 Anyone remember Stephen France.Left in the mid 1960's. He was known for having the most canes in one day.Lived on Seaton Cresent.Best mate was Jimmy Bramall.:(

Anyone remember mr shaw the music teacher? He retired in 1975 though. However he is still going strong at the age of 95!
Mr. Barnes!!!
I have been thinking Sweetcheeks and have come up with the name miss atkins for the p.e teacher. However there were two female P.E teachers one quite glamerous and the other with the physique of a female shot putter. Also there were rumours that Miss Beckett and the english teacher were having an affair but i can't remember the english teachers name. It wasn't mr wilson though he was the older one. Does anyone remember mr booth the biology teacher. he was quite dishy and most of us had a crush on him.
other p.e teachers name was mrs vickers the 1 that looked like a shot putter..
terminator 12-05-2010, 23:23 hiya i remember all them my name was christine cartwright (then)And you lived on littledale estate ???
Hello I am Susan Hague and so pleased to report that I have been in touch with Pat Grayson and went back to Sheffield to meetup with her again
Do you remember Roger Pass, His dad kept Greyhouds. What a character. Used to be my best mate. But lost touch. I remember the first day at the school. The very first day it opened. I have put a piece on another thread about that. It was our generation that designed their badge. In those days it was the badge of courage. I shed a tear when the scum bags set fire to it.
I remember the Pask Family I lived down the road from them in Frederick Street I hung about with Goerge ,Trevor, Jeff and Susan Buster pask was the oldest and Roger I think was the second eldest.
Susan I don't know if you remember me but I was at Waltheof during the first two years it was opened.
Hi Linda Sorry the name does not ring a bell
HI, I was there from 64 to 69 and the teacher that lived in Darnall was Mr Dennis Cooper I was in his class and boy was he scarey when he gave you the stick he would take a short run and jump up and come down with the hardest wack of a stick I have ever had
I was there too from 64 to 69. In the 4th year I ended up in class 4/1 under Matt. I remember the punishment that was handed out back then but it was normal wasn't it? Old Cooper used to take a run from down the corridor and belt you with a slipper on the arse and send you flying into the classroom - embarrasing or what! Pity it's not like that today - don't think it did us any harm. Mind you - all I was interested in was getting on the trampoline every morning!
I was at Waltheof from 1966 to 1970
Mr Postlethwaite was the head with Mr Marshall deputy head and Miss Sarsons deputy head mistress. Mr Shipley was Maths teacher. Mr Battersbt the English teacher (handlebar moustache). Mr Smith the French teacher (he used the slipper and not the cane). My first year form teacher was Mr Mawson. He was a Somme veteran from WW1 .. he went over the top at 7:30 on July 1st 1916 and lost every friend he knew in 28 minutes, he said. I went to the Sheffield Memorial Park on the Somme last year ... he was a braver man than I have ever been.
In my class was Kevin Burns, Dave Waller and 48 others I can't remember (senior moment) :hihi:
Many happy memories though.......... Kevin Stones :help:
I was there betwwen 64 - 68. Was Kevin Burns an oymic standard swimmer?
kevstones 29-07-2010, 16:25 I remember Mr Cooper. Didn't he teach Geography?
I also remember the Pask family from Frederick Street. We lived next door to them at no 60. Buster and Melvyn slept in the loft. When Melvyn came home he used to play the Accordian. He could make it talk. I also remember George and Jeff, plus Susan. Trevor was in my class at Whitby Road from Infants and through Juniors. We ended up in different classes when we arrived at Waltheof.
Trevor slept at the top of the stairs on a little landing the was over the entry. The rest of the kids slept end to end in the bed in the back room.
Happy days. We then moved to Malvern Road at Darnall.
We were in the same yard as the Lees family. I lost touch with Sharon who was in my class at Whitby Road.
Kevin
kevstones 29-07-2010, 16:28 Kevin Burns didn't swim in the Olympics as far I as I know but got close and was considered. He sometimes looks at the forum so he may reply to your question.
I was able to make contact with Dave Waller through Friends Reunited. I also bumped into Lynn Cowley one day in a pub in central Sheffield and Julie Caley in a pub in Darnall.
I attented Waltheof during 64 through 68. Lost touch with many but here are some names I remember. If any of you are still alive and kicking let me know.
Tony Schultz, Roger Thurston, Terry Bullas, Steve Stead, Gary Street, Lewis Hamilton, 'Froggy', Howard Timms, ..........I could go on but here's a few to start with.
kevstones 29-07-2010, 16:42 I remember Paul Timms very well but not Howard Timms. Some of the other names ring a bell such as Terry Bullas and Steve Stead.
I was in the same class as Graham Windle, Kenneth Stinchcombe, Ann Rose, Susan Saville, Julie Harvgreaves, Angela Norton. I f I stop thinking about it I will remember more I am sure

Old Cooper used to take a run from down the corridor and belt you with a slipper on the arse and send you flying into the classroom - embarrasing or what! Pity it's not like that today - don't think it did us any harm. Mind you - all I was interested in was getting on the trampoline every morning![/QU

Just found this thread but have not read through it all so apologies for any repetition.
Does any one know the Buttery family? Sonny (Ken) married a girl called Carol, I think her maiden name was white. Also Paul and Jimmy Buttery who had two sisters whose names I cant remember. Sonny and Paul were both very good football players with Sonny playing in the same year as Mel Sterland and Carl Shutt
G12Ravda 06-09-2010, 14:31 Sandra Patterson wer in our class.
She were quite nice lookin'
an' a right nice lass.
So were Carol Clark & Jennifer Hamer,
who's dad were a juggler & a lion-tamer.
He weren't really but he had a fruit shop and could juggle a bit.
wi' tomatoes an' stuff.
I just put lion-tamer to mek it rhyme.
G12Ravda 09-10-2010, 18:20 A three year stretch at Waltheof did little good to me.
Relief came, when I left the place, in 1963.
Ben Holland, Cooper and old Marshall
Were three of whom I wasn't partial!
-and that's putting it mildly.

Whats your name? Im Michael
G12Ravda 22-10-2010, 07:44 My 3 years at Waltheof left few happy memories but thanks for contact, however -
It's unlikely that I'll know you,
As I left in sixty-three.
So no point telling you my name,
As you will not know me,
I didn't know of Wainwright
Nor that old tool, Goodrum
But I knew lots of lasses there
- one could have been your mum!
only joking
Mr Saxon, the headmaster of Whitby Rd School retired to Alford, Lincolnshire, I used to visit him from time to time, he and his wife were lovely. He died a good many years ago now, of a heart attack and his wife Doris died some years later.

Anyone remember Jane Mitchell and the other Intake girls. Her sister Susan went out with Ray Storey wondered how she is doing. Did she become a Sullivan. Think she left around 1976.
The Jane Mitchell I knew at Waltheof left in 1977 and married Martin Hull?
Sweetcheeks,
I was there from 67-72. I remember all these teachers. Also Miss Sarson, DW Smith, Mr Battersby, Miss Batty, Mr Rawlings, (they married each other) Who was the teacher that lived in Darnall on Darnall Main Rd right before it turned into Staniforth Rd? He hated black kids. He once got Linval Madden and used him like a battering ram and rammed his head into the wall in the classroom. putting a hole in it.
The teacher was Cooper, i was in his class and was best mates with Linvals brother Albert. He once hung Albert out of the tower block window, Cooper was a Nazi and also a magistrate. I lived at the bottom of Pipworth Rd till the estate was pulled down :(
Paul.
I was there from 64 to 68 and found this thread whilst trying to find reference to a scheme we were involved in. it was called "Plant a Tree in 63".
we were taken to the side of the Parkway and each given a sapling with our name on. the year after they did it again as "Plant some more in 64".
I have searched everywhere but can't find a reference to it anywhere.
I have found load of people I knew on Friends Reunited.
The teacher was Cooper, i was in his class and was best mates with Linvals brother Albert. He once hung Albert out of the tower block window, Cooper was a Nazi and also a magistrate. I lived at the bottom of Pipworth Rd till the estate was pulled down :(
Paul.
I was at Darnall C of E juniors school and Cleaveland Madden came to join us when they first arrived in this area. he was a real nice kid.
kevstones 21-06-2011, 16:13 I left in 1970 and spent the last few months of my school life in Chesterfield ... sheesh. I had crossed the border into Derbyshire and everybody wanted to put a hatchet in my head.
But, I have to admit that the academic standards at Waltheof were much higher than Manor School in Chesterfield. They could hardly read and write. They had Liberal Studies where we sat around, watch a school TV program and discussed it, to what end? I learnt nowt.
Happy days when I was single, young, healthy and debt free ... I'm not saying that I'm cynical, but .... :hihi:
bluediamonds 26-06-2011, 17:50 I went to Waltheof when 'Sally vinegar (Miss Sarson) vice head if girls and 'Pop' Postlethwaite was head....I also remember getting chased round the classroom by Mr 'Tinribs' Tindall 'Dicky Wing did science (I think)
Oh happy days

Bean's Gran 04-07-2011, 18:07 Hi exhatter. I lived on Darnall Main Road, at the bottom end of Handsworth Hill. Don`t remember any teacher living nearby, although Mr Cooper lived somewhere near Staniforth Road. He was a bit nutty and I believe he had a breakdown at some stage of his career, if this is wrong....I apologise! As for "Lurch", a.k.a. Mr Frank Hewitt, he taught History when I was there but could never control the class, he used to twitch his shoulders and neck, losing his temper. I felt rather sorry for him, he tried his best but the kids simply did not fear him and took advantage. Not that I did!:D

I certainly remember you and from time to time I've seen your name appear on this site.
I was there for about eighteen months and left in 1964 to go to City Grammar.
I would certainly love to catch up with you and swap memories.

Hi
I'm pretty sure that Kim Johnson went out with a lad that I knocked about with at school, Dave Whitehouse...
A few names remember Jimmy Barrass, Ian Pacey (yow!), Ray Stones (Stonner!), Alan Taylor (Tats!), Paul Birkwood, Trevor Morris, John Fogg (Foggy), Dave Beal, Ian Brown..
There waere loads more of us that knocked about together around Darnall..
Cheers, Biggsy :)
Mr Monks worked for Sheffield Newspapers until retirement , Their daughter Judy ( glamorous Blonde) sprang to fame as a T.V Hostess with Hughie Green , sadly I heard that Judy has now past on.
The other Family over the drop at the back, were the Ketteringhams they moved to Aston - Sheffield. but we lost touch.
3 x ketteringham brothers & families lived on Darnall Drive .
All of the above very Decent people.
That is very sad to to hear about Judith.
I always had a soft spot for her, nothing very serious.but it could have been
I ran into her a few times in the City when she had the shop at the bottom of Cambridge steet.
The last time was when I was back from Germany and just about to leave for Australia and we were talking about the future and she said she would love to go with me!
Well you know the the two most devastating words in the English language.
"What If"

I am so very sorry to be the bearer of such sad tidings , though we were not personal friends , simply neighbours , you may take heart from Her best friend who assures me that Judy enjoyed a very active and interesting life with all it's ups and downs - and enjoyed it to the full.
Odd-jobs 13-09-2011, 18:17 Karen Johnson, Sharon Smith,
Still get palpitations just thinking about those two. Year above me though
Hi Kevin, Firstly welcome to the Forum. I remember Kevin Burns, he was a brilliant swimmer if I remember correctly. I was in the same class as his sister Linda, a really nice girl. I also remember Dave Waller, I think he lived on Bowden Wood and always wore Doc Martens.
I didn`t know that Mr Mawson was a War Veteran and had never heard the awful story of his comrades before. He was such a delightful person, the best teacher I ever knew.
Thanks for the information and have a great Christmas. Richard.
All of the Burns Family are lovely people - Linda , Kev , Sharon , Trevor ?
As previously commented upon, Mr Burns was a simply wonderful Man , a real Gentleman and it was a an absolute pleasure and delight to be in his company . Never since have I come across anyone with such a natural good natured and open candour as Himself, He made everyone welcome and treated you as his best buddy regardless , He never forgot your name and was always interested in you as a person , your general well being and if He could Help You .....
Respect.
I remember being in their Home / Backyard at Bridport Rd being a constantly changing eclectic group of people , all having a good time :)
Dragging chairs outside to sit in the Sun ( we had Summers then ) a meliflouos woofle of Hendrix Music eminating from the Kitchen , whilst swigging a cold "beverage" from the fridge , Mr Burns included . How Cool was that !
Me and some buddies often accompanied Kevin to Attercliffe Baths , pre - Junior School Swimming Lessons , like a Duck to Water isn't even close ....
At Waltheof Kev was usually regarded as " Burnsy " or often " Bernie " in reference to the T.V program " The Golden Shot " whereby the Guy who loaded the Arrow was known as " Bernie the Bolt" .....
The inference being that Kevin was like an Arrow from a Bow whilst traversing a Swimming Pool !
So , Apologies to Mr Usain - Bolt , but Kev was their first !
I think a Mr Mettam may have been Kev's early mentor in swimming ?
Apart from having an eye for the ladies ( who drooled over him - lucky sod ) Kevin had a keen sense of style , rumour has it He used to camp outside Colvins when a new range of duds were due in ?
Dave Waller Lived on Staniforth rd Darnall , then Acres Hill / Littledale after leaving School .Good Guy.
Most Guys wore " Bovver Boots " until they Banned them ?
I remember a School Leaving dance where most lads wore Dockers' Levi Sta- prest ' & Ben Shermans .
Good Times.

Your sister and me went to The Cavendish (Baileys) once. She was very attractive, like a young Shirley Bassey. It was a one off date, as she wasn't interested. No hard feelings though - all water under the bridge. I hope you are well and happy in Melbourne.

kevstones 25-11-2011, 18:31 I noticed the name of Kevin Hicken. Is that the Kevin that became a ball boy for Sheffield United and was part of Sheffield Boys?
I remember him at Waltheof, in fact we were together at Whitby Infants and Juniors during the early 60's.
I remember just once I beat him when we were playing footy in the sports lesson. Took me 11 years to do it ... I've been scared ever since ... not really.
I keep scratching my head to remember names from others I went through 4 years with at Waltheof. Dave Waller, Kevin Burns, Angela Norton, Julie Hargreaves, Graham Windle, Paul Tims, can't remember his first name but his last was Hendry. There was a young lass who was top of the class every year, very quiet. Ann Rose, Susan Saville. Judith Birley who had a younger brother at the school. There are many more.
Happy days

The teacher was Cooper, i was in his class and was best mates with Linvals brother Albert. He once hung Albert out of the tower block window, Cooper was a Nazi and also a magistrate. I lived at the bottom of Pipworth Rd till the estate was pulled down :(
Paul.

Ol' man Cooper was a nutcase that could only bully the kids, I recall him gobbing off at a teacher (think it was a Geography teacher but can't remember his name), the teacher went for Cooper and Cooper ran in a classroom and jammed the door somehow, he was scared to death because he couldn't bully that teacher!!
I can remember Cooper screaming at a lad called Knocker Knowles, grabbing him and hanging over the handrail at the top of the towerblock :shocked:
The good old days :gag:
Biggsy:)
MattLafferty 30-12-2011, 16:00 In the mid nineties I went out with a Waltheof girl - Kirsty, first name- and memory tells me her surname was Pigg but that can't be right! Lovely girl but spent the whole of the two dates it lasted positioning herself so she could see her own reflection in windows, shop doors, mirrors etc. I think blokes were just an accessory to her like handbags and earrings. Lovely girl though
sticky bun 31-12-2011, 16:59 I left waltheof in may 1990,my form tutor was mr tiffen who was by far the best teacher in the school.I returned in 1999 because i had lost my exam results which i needed for a new job and mr tiffen was there to help me out WHAT A STAR i even got the job to which i will be forever grateful.Top school with top teachers and great mates with even better memories!!
