According to CAMRA anyway. Im one of the few "Youngsters" who dared try the fancy beers on offer by the Real Ale brewers. Its not very often I drink lager now and even then it'll be a Czech lager with a bit of class behind it.
Like the article suggests, Leffe and Hoegaarden are a good start.
My first taste of belgium was a bottle of Brugs de Blanche Witbier and i never looked back
Does anyone else here drink real ale or belgian/german beers?

Just came back from a week in Belgium...mmmmmmmm
So in short. Yes :)
I drink those cheap french beers from Netto.... Shh, just don't tell t020 we shop at Netto ;)
Before I go I have to post on this thread. I drink Belgium Beers like Kwak and Chimay. My dad and grandma are Belgian so we go over to see the family and drink some fine ale:thumbsup:
I love leffe, and if i'm at the cat having a few i feel obliged to try to sample as many strange real ales and foreign lagers as possible.

I've been drinking Hoegaarden and Budvar long before it was considered cool and trendy to do so.
However, I can't resist a decent pint of ale, especially anything that Wadworth produce (JCB is fantastic). The best thing is that Wetherspoons sell it for about £1.20 a pint!

I much prefer real ale to any rubbish that most pubs stock. I can't stand the taste (or lack of it) and gasiness associated with most lagers.
I love Moonshine and Liefmans kriek although for some reason the Dev cat has decided to pull that line.
I went to th beer and blues festival at fenny bently this summer for my birthday. 100 different ales and decent music, it was heaven.
Only disadvantage to real ale is the stench i produce the next morning after a heavy session.

Real ale is just so much better than any of that other crap served up by most pubs and bars.
If your going to drink lager then it needs to be something decent, a nice French or Belgium one with a decent taste and isn't too fizzy.

As I am not young I can't comment. But I will!
Too many people have been introduced to alcohol through alcopops and many seem happy to stay with that if all the 20+ year olds I see is anything to go by.
These folks don't have an educated palate and it's no wonder they get p****d so easily as they may as well be supping Tizer.
The hefty profit margins fuel trendy advertising and then we have a cycle developing.
When was the last time anyone saw a TV advert for that classic ale, draught Bass? (try it at the Miners in Eyam: brilliant)

I'm another proper beer fan! A personal recomendation (if you can find it - the only place I've seen it is the Devonshire Cat and Tescos!) is Russian beer which is very good :)
Real Ale for me - lager just doesn't do it for me. I've found that hangovers are much less of a problem since I started drinking real ale - I can drink as many pints, and then some, as I used to drink lager, but the hangover is nowhere near as bad. Seems fair dinkum to me.
