Walkley and crookes are just on the fringe of what you could call north sheffield, but the people have a great deal in common with the people from hillsborough, with the same accent etc.. Therefore I always think of Walkley and crookes as North sheffield

Tony Christie lived on Regent Court Flats in Hillsborough, next door to us for a while when I was a baby.

If we are agreeing that Crookes and Walkley are North Sheffield, then the famous tennis player Roger Taylor must go on the list. He used to practise in the council owned courts on what was called ' the old 'ollar ' between Crooksmoor school and Mushroom lane. I think they were where the Philadelphia flats are now, or maybe just a little higher up.There was a road down to the 'ollar from Mushroom Lane called 'The Canada', opposite the end of Powell st. It had a steel door which was said to cover a tunnel through to Weston Park. Anyone remember it?

Claim to fame!! "Edwin" was a friend of a friend and lived near Nottingham. I was supposed to get to meet him when he visited Stannington shortly before he died, but at the last minute something unavoidable came up and I couldn't get there on the day to meet him. They rang me up to see if I was still coming and I got to talk to him on the phone as I was helping them with a computer related problem at the time. He later sent them a signed album for me which I have still got!

Pitsmoor is most definitely north Sheffield and Billy Sharp (as a blade i'd count him as famous :)) and Peter Stringfellow both hail from it's sunny pastures.

Other famous people from north Sheff. that I can think of are the Arctic Monkeys who are from High Green, Jon McClure (The Reverend & The Makers) who I think is from Grenoside and Naseem Hamed from Wincobank (going a bit towards the east but I would still class it as north Sheffield).
