Walkley and crookes are just on the fringe of what you could call north sheffield, but the people have a great deal in common with the people from hillsborough, with the same accent etc.. YAMDAVE 07-10-2006, 11:04 If we are agreeing that Crookes and Walkley are North Sheffield, then the famous tennis player Roger Taylor must go on the list. He used to practise in the council owned courts on what was called ' the old 'ollar ' between Crooksmoor school and Mushroom lane. I think they were where the Philadelphia flats are now, or maybe just a little higher up.There was a road down to the 'ollar from Mushroom Lane called 'The Canada', opposite the end of Powell st. It had a steel door which was said to cover a tunnel through to Weston Park. Anyone remember it? Jabberwocky 07-10-2006, 11:11 Me.
