Very good. Not sure he's right about the Radio Two audience figures though. I heard they were up on last year.

The last Radio 2 figures (out last week) were down.

You'll have to take my word for it, as it's unlikely they're going to broadcast that fact.

We get all the radio listening figures sent to Hallam FM for this area. I've seen them.

The BBC's report that "BBC Radio 2 has attracted an extra 530,000 listeners" is here (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/tv_and_radio/3936361.stm)

Yes this is backed up here

You may have to be registered to read but it basically backs up what the bbc link says

Good interview, although I must admit I've never heard Nick's show as I'm a Mark Radcliffe fan.

Does Nick know that Chris Moyles takes the mick out of him now and again? :-)

I would imagine that Nick wouldn't be too bothered... like he says, some DJs just talk about drinking beer (etc.) all day.

Yup I do know about Moyles' obsession with the show. He's not really my cup of tea nowadays (he used to be good years ago) so I've not heard him on his new show much. I wish him all the best though I'd politely insist that he thanks me by name on air every time he rips my stuff off.

My only problem with what he does is that it's nothing new. He has also in my opinion dramatically sold out. All that TV nonsense was nothing short of embarrasing. See I'm a big radio fan and I thought Moyles had the chance of doing something new and really making an impact on the radio world at one point. Instead he's ******* his talent away being a wacky breakfast show jock who thinks he's cutting edge. His comedy is very lazy as well.

As for the Radio 2 figures, I'm not sure about them going up nationally but in our area they really buggered things up this time round.

NM

PS - That Star article annoyed me a bit. I would like to state on record that the Hallam FM bosses have NEVER asked me to be naughty or rude or contro-f***ing-versial.

I hate that idea! There is NOTHING controversial about my show at all. The idea is laughable. In all seriousness if I could broadcast the conversations you or anyone else for that matter has in their normal day to day life, you'd discover that some people would take issue with your opinions. What to you are mundane everyday conversations and opinions would end up getting big heavy serious complaints sent in to the station. Real life would be labelled controversial if you put it on the radio. It's stupid but true. You shouldn't buy into it though. In fact you should actively stamp out the myth if you can. It'd make my life a lot easier.

lo nick - i often listen to bits of your show, mainly because it's so funny to listen to people's reactions - you have a remarkable ability to draw out someone's opinion, argue the reverse and leave them speachless. keep up the good work, it's great to listen to someone who has their own style for once.

What I like and also what I think makes the show so popular is the fact that the callers must know what to expect yet they are willing to be shot down in flames.

A little bit akin to masochism maybe?

My wife isnt impressed though because when I'm on evenings and driving home I can be sat on the drive for another 10 mins listening before I switch the engine off and its a diesel!!

Keep it up Nick

Why leave the engine running? Surely you know that the first position on your ignition key activates the electrics (including the radio) without the need to start the engine, or even illuminate the dash warning lights.

Just like Mark Meadowcroft, in fact, who presented the Hallam phone-in 8/9 years ago.

He used to get very annoyed with people who a) couldn't argye their case coherently or b) came on air and asked something they could find out at the Citizens' Advice Bureau.

Anyone know what he is doing now?

Nick if you read this i would like to congratulate you on your fantastic show that you put on every night and have done for past 9 months or so (i think) now. I have listened to every single show except for one. Your talk show brightens up my evening every night (Sun-Thurs) anyway. I think you are the best talk show host hallam have had since Phoneboy did it back in 2002 for 6 weeks or so. Late Night Lucio was pretty good aswell, although he played a little too much music for a talkshow. You seem to talk a lot of sense, most of the time anyway lol.
Best for the future success of the show

i only listen to his show now and again but when i do there is always an idiot that says they dont like the show etc etc yeh everyones entitled to there opinion but why dont they just listen to something else instead or are they too thick to do that!!

Nick should just keep doin what he's doin---his job.

I also enjoyed Phoneboy's show. I think in a few years time he'd do well to move back into doing a talkshow. He's a naturally funny person and that really came through on air. You can of course still hear him on evenings before 11pm.

Thanks to everyone who's being nice.

As for why don't people listen to something else? There's nothing else on. Haven't you noticed? It's all rubbish. The second problem is even the people who hate the show can still become addicted to it. I hate cigarettes but I'm hooked on 'em and in fact I'm off to have one now!

Nick, I have not honestly heard your show for 3 or 4 months as I have had a FUBAR's car with no leading cable from ariel to box - I must admit this is a MAJOR problem and as so I WILL say this - I have my FM Radio "dials" 1-6 which my car has...

1> 105.6 > Galaxy 105
2> 105.1 > As above but with an alternate frequency.

3> 97.4 > Hallam FM (Evenin's if it was almost was asked)
4> ^^^ AT 103.4
5> 101.1 > BBC Classical
6> Real Radio.

Not quite true... Scottie does a good phone in on Magic AM at night, and I switch over to that when I'm driving if Nicholarse is being too boring or repetitive. Pity its not on FM though!

No offence to Nick but who wants to listen to the windging public going on about useless and uninformative clap trap.
I mean, come on 'My boyfriends just left me after a week i can't cope'. Or some boring footy fan going on about some boring footy player.
Radio's about music and i much prefer to listen to Radio 2 than some talk rubbish.
I'm sure Nicks a good DJ and does a fine job but life in general is deppressing enough, not personally but politicly and its worse than watching East enders.
Put a comedy show on so we can have a laugh and leave the sad suicidal callers off our air waves.

music gets boring all day repeating the same songs, with a chat show you get to air your view and listen to other peoples ok so the subjects may be the same now and again but you can ring up on no topic night and talk about what ever you want!

You've never even listened to this radio show have you mate?

We only have one suicidal caller ... and a very nice person they are as well. We rarely have conversations about football as I think it's a form of mind control, a bit like pop music. I've certainly not discussed many people's relationships on the show, apart from my own.

Makes me wonder how many other things you comment on without knowing anything about them?

It's a shame because you are criticising the listeners for being uninformed in a post which suggests the same thing about you. So to be honest, without intending any offence, I suggest you're not the sort of person to listen to a show like mine. We're the opposite of what you'd expect and if you rang in I suspect you'd only embarrass yourself. As you have with this post.

All the best luv.

;)
