kittenta 06-10-2006, 11:20 I've started this thread so that all the photos of your work (or links to them) can be in one place so we don't have to search for them! Why not post us a picture of your lastest creation?
Happy crafting!

Both your cards and jewellery are wonderful! I really like the wedding cards, wish I could make cards like that!
dearsue1 10-10-2006, 09:34 you can its just using my imagination. I dont like to do the cards same as I watch them make on tv. I just watch and I get ideas tips etc. I like to be original.
Have a go be worth it. Do you have any card pics. Love to see them. I did some cross stich years ago. Still got a tiger kit. My eyes not as they used to be so have threading needle problems. I will get round to it one day hopefully. I like to do thing that dont take long and see fast results.
you wanna pay me to do it? ;)
let me see if I can do this..

kittenta 10-10-2006, 15:04 You have quite a collection there Hayley1! I love the northern lights one
pinkreality 14-10-2006, 21:57 Ok here is the Husky that I am currently stitching :)
Wow thats looking really good. Is it a kit or have you turned a photo in to a chart?
beansforyou 14-10-2006, 22:34 I love the ' before the sunrise' picture you have stitched, stunning.
Thank you :D
I agree the Husky is amazing!
kittenta 16-10-2006, 08:31 Wow thats looking really good. Is it a kit or have you turned a photo in to a chart?
I bought the chart but it is made from a photo. I can't believe how realistic it looks, determined to finish it!
pinkreality 17-10-2006, 18:44 I bought the chart but it is made from a photo. I can't believe how realistic it looks, determined to finish it!
Good Luck with completing it. I'm always amazed how good those photo charts look. You see them a lot in magazines where people have done them from an old photo. They're such a nice keepsake.

Yes they are, i'm planning on doing one of my old dog who recently died, that is if I can find a photo why she isn't wearing a towel or party hat or running around with some strange toy in her mouth
kittenta 30-10-2006, 12:05 My DD who is four years old wanted me to post a picture of her first stitching so here it is!
http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k298/kittenta/th_2006170.jpg (http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k298/kittenta/2006170.jpg)
It is a plastic canvas butterfly and she has backstitched it. I only had to show her two stitches and she did the rest on her own, other than the fastening off :)
This is a first attempt to upload a picture - here goes.
kittenta 01-11-2006, 20:42 Thats a really nice picture :) How long did it take you?

That is so cute!
You could make it into a handbag charm :)
Thanks Kittenta, I think it took me about six months, I still love it, I wish I could live there. Most of my scenes have cottages in them, but this is my favourite.
I've got in a real mess trying to upload the pics, I need some more lessons from hubby:hihi: I've asked admin to delete this link as it goes to an album instead of just the photo?? I'll have to sort it before I put the others up.
Does this work??

Beansforyou, that is beautiful - encourage her while she's young. The last time my grandaughter came I started her off with plastic canvas and wool she loved it.
beansforyou 01-11-2006, 22:35 I can't take any credit Shelag, as I have only Quoted Kittenta's post, it is her child thats the talented one on here, mine can finish a computer game at the speed of light though! :)
You can edit your own posts, there should be a little blue button at the bottom of your post that says Edit? :)
No I'll let her see how useless I am at this computer lark:hihi: :hihi:
Well done Kittenta's little stitcher.
Just managed to edit my previous post, thanks
After a few more lessons I've now uploaded some others:thumbsup:
see post above
kittenta 02-11-2006, 09:40 Thanks beansforyou. She wants to put the butterfly on her school book folder but i don't want to ruin either the folder or her butterly :D It is a material folder. Could attempt to sew it on I suppose, can't do much damage to the butterfly can I and the folders are only £3 should I ruin it
A friend has sent her a piglet bookmark cross stitch kit. It has blocks of one colour so I'm tempted to let her have a go. If she doesn't get it I can but it away and try again another time.:)
Shelagh, your pictures are lovely, I notice they are all largish projects, do you prefer these? I like cottage scenes but I normally stitch presents for other people rather than things for home. That will change next year! I hope
I used to do one large project a year, with lots of smaller ones before my next big one, I can't see me ever going back to it again, unless I'm asked for something specific. If anyone on here is looking for anything in particular I have loads of charts and mags to get rid of.

Maybe if you list a few things you have people may be interested  Have you tried selling them on the for sale section? Make some money for other craft projects :)
beansforyou 03-11-2006, 09:27 Looking at all your lovely cross stitch is making me want to go get all mine out again - but i've got to be good! there's only so many hours in a day and i'm trying to get enough yarn spun & dyed and items knitted for the craft fair on the 18th
I'm getting slightly panicky lol
Kitten, I was thinking you could get one of these metal keyring thingies (the bit in the photo holding the pink tigers head on) and fasten the butterfly on with that? here (http://members.westnet.com.au/flippy/kittystuff/images/keyring-pink.jpg)

Awwwww.... thanks so much   !!!! I've been doing this for about - ahem - 30 years now....... For some reason, these are the only ones I have framed.... I like to do the really big ones.....
kittenta 01-01-2007, 10:14 I think framing them seems to be something we all forget to do lol. So have you got some that you haven't framed yet?
Not my own work - but thought you might like to see these!!!
I went on holiday to China a few years ago and went to a silk embroidery factory.... where these women were hand embroidering these silk pictures, they were taking the designs from photographs propped up in front of them......!!!!

SafetyPin 22-02-2007, 11:58 This is a bag I made as a sort of half-joke for my friend Vicky, who is currently teaching English in Japan:
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a231/safetypingirl/home%20made/pantsbag.jpg
I'd assumed she'd liked it as an object of mirth, but then got an email saying how many people had said nice things about it when she wore it out. Was really nice to hear :)

Yes, it was amazing to see!!! Health and Safety in China was practically non-existent..... we also went to a silk brocade factory and a silkworm farm. At the factory they were weaving on looms and at the top of each loom (about 10ft from the ground) someone else was operating the levers!!! At the farm, there were vats of open boiling water to drop the cocoons in - and we could just wander around as we pleased!!

Thanks kittenta!
I made about 8 in total, mainly for friends and family, but my little lad managed to pinch one for his teacher! I love making cards and usually make them instead of buying now! It's so addictive! I'm actually in front with birthdays, just completed up to May's birthdays!

We've been doing a project about 'shoes' at our art group recently. We had to do something about a special pair of shoes that meant something special to us or fantasy shoes ie fairytale shoes etc. I did both. Here is my completed "Cinderella Shoe" made from clay, sequins and beads and painted with metallic nail polish!

This is how it is progressing (slowly). The Castle is Castell Coch in South Wales, and may be familar to some as the setting for the children's programme 'The Worst Witch'.
I am aiming to get it finished for my Dad before diabetes robs him of the remainder of his eyesight.

Some of your pieces are a little hard to see on the coloured backgrounds which is a shame because they are really pretty pieces!
lizzzbur 09-07-2007, 11:37 Thanks for feedback. I'll retake the photos and see how that looks.

maramcp! I think they are great!! I have a couple of cross stitch on our landing that are framed. Hubby's Aunty did them for us - I really, really like them and want to get round to doing one to go along side them. I did a cross stitch for my Mum a couple of years ago which said "Grandchildren Are Special" and had children on a beach with sandcastles and buckets etc. I was really pleased with it and it meant a lot to us both. Well done you, keep up the good work! ps, my house isn't very clean or tidy.....:hihi:
Hay Maramcp, they're great  thanks for sharing

Have you seen anything you'd like to try? :D
thepadercloa 31-05-2008, 21:47 How on earth do you manage all that!
By starting aged nine, and it looking a lot more complicated than it really is!
(Honestly, when you have your head down moving this bobbin to that location, then this one there, it is so practical and simple, it is like join the dots...)
thepadercloa 31-05-2008, 21:51 Well, I'd like to eat all the cakes :D
And I was really impressed by Hayley's work, but not sure I am ready to dive into the world of cross stitch yet. The hand made cards have given me some ideas for the next card making party...
kittenta 31-05-2008, 21:59 I suppose cross stitch looks hard to some people when it really isn't. I supposed it's what you are used to! What do you do with your finished projects? Do you do them for yourself, sell them, make for friends?
thepadercloa 31-05-2008, 22:01 What do you do with your finished projects? Do you do them for yourself, sell them, make for friends?
I give them all to friends. I am trying to make some for myself, as I have only projects which went wrong to show off to people who come round!
(And cross stitch looks complicated to me)
kittenta 31-05-2008, 22:26 Cross stitch really is very simple, if I can do it anyone can lol. Although I am not as good at it as Hayley1 is!! Where do you find your patterns from?
thepadercloa 31-05-2008, 22:30 Cross stitch really is very simple, if I can do it anyone can lol. Although I am not as good at it as Hayley1 is!! Where do you find your patterns from?
I usually get them from books, the last piece and the one I am working on now came from this book (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Technique-Bobbin-Lace-Pamela-Nottingham/dp/0713471891/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1212272847&sr=8-1) But I have designed my own patterns in the past. (Not had enough spare time to do that recently though).
kittenta 31-05-2008, 22:38 So, what exactly do you use the finished projects for? Can you make table cloths for example or is it just small items? Tell me to shut up if i'm asking too much :hihi:
Oh and how long do they take you to make?
thepadercloa 31-05-2008, 22:43 It would take a very long time to make a table cloth, but it has been done (not by me).
My mother usually frames the work I make for her, but I have made chokers, little mats and bookmarks.
I have an empty paperweight to fill, should I ever ger inspired (the sort you buy from craft shops to put pressed flowers etc. into.
I once made a piece of lace and sewed it onto the front of a birthday card.
(And once spent months making my sister in law's wedding garter).
Many uses, as long as you have the time, or the item is small!
kittenta 01-06-2008, 09:17 Sounds very rewarding though.
I'm gonna get a big head after reading this! lol thanks though, It's lovely when people appreciate what you do.
I love your lace! You've worked really hard, I can see that. There was some lace makers & stalls at the Harrogate show last november - have you been? One of our ladies on A Crafty Natter makes lace....it's beyond me :lol
Perhaps once we get a regular slot in the club going Kitt - we could do some beginners classes in all the different kinds of craft we all do?

kittenta 08-06-2008, 09:07 That is so cute!!!!!
Yes, she picked it herself after considering every bookmark kit sew and so had :o. It took a while but she'd spotted that one straight away.
That's really lovely kittenta - well done!

I have just finished my grandma's birthday present (photo here) (http://i288.photobucket.com/albums/ll183/padercloak/Lace/002.jpg) Shame her birthday was at the start of May... ;)
Jabberwocky 23-06-2008, 22:57 Just before Christmas I asked forum members to keep a look out for some victorian paper for a project I was working on at art group. Anyway I ended up getting the paper (it was to cover a paper mache bowl that I made) and here is the finished bowl

That looks great!!! Is it tatting or crochet?? I've tried to do tatting a few times, but never quite got the hang of it!!!!

It's actually bobbin lace. I never got the hang of crochet, and have never tried tatting. Here are two photos of work in progress... (close up) (http://i288.photobucket.com/albums/ll183/padercloak/Lace/003.jpg) and (further away) (http://i288.photobucket.com/albums/ll183/padercloak/Lace/006.jpg)

Good Grief!!!!!
That looks remarkably...... complicated!!!!
Thinking of the number of knots I can get my cross-stitch thread into, I'd have a fine old time trying to unravel that lot......!!!!

Oh thanks Jabbers! You'd be surprised at just how easy that was!

stylesister 16-04-2009, 02:00 This is where I keep a log of how I made stuff with paper, including photos of it[URL="http://http://mollywonkadesignstudios.blogspot.com/"http://mollywonkadesignstudios.blogspot.com/[/URL] At least now I won't forget how I turned a blank piece of card into something that sometimes resembles art!
