A question for the professional builders out there. We had a chimney rebuilt as we wanted to open up a fireplace to put a gas fire in. We are now in the process of selling our house and have been asked by the solicitor to fill in a form about whether we've had any building work done, and to provide the necessary building regs approval documents.

did we need to get building regs approval for rebuilding a chimney taht was taken away about 10 years ago? did the builder who built it advise us wrongly that we didn't need building regs approval?
thanks,

BC

Contact the council

You can't sell without getting this sorted - so you may as well :(

they'll tell you what paperwork you may or may not need, and if I remember correctly (from friends who had a kitchen knocked through prior to a sale) it isn't expensive ;)

Is the chimney working or is aesthetic .... and have the chimney breasts been removed from the rooms below?

lol. no, it's a working chimney for a gas fire.

turns out we do need building regulations approval, and will be applying for this retrospectively, or 'regularising' it. pain in the neck, but nothing serious.

thanks strix.
