I'm interested in joining a boxing club (never done it before) and am looking for one near the city centre (possibly the university?). Does anyone have a recommendation? I'm not looking to competitively box, just want to pick up some new skills and get a good work out doing it :)

The university runs a pretty good boxing class once an evening and if your a member of the gym and no-one is using it you can sneak in and use their activity room with all the punchbags in it.
Is there still a boxing club at St Vincents on Solly Street?
Yes, St Vincents is still around and appears to be thriving once again. It has a website which can be found on google but the site isn't up to much.

Do you have a link for them evildrneil? It doesn't seem to come up in google.
As for St. Vincents are either of you involved there? I'd like a place that's light-hearted and not too serious.....

Its run by usport ( http://www.shef.ac.uk/usport/ ) though I forget which evening - theres as a timeable available on the usport site though :)
The boxing night is listed as boxercise but is actually a boxing night!
I box out of st. Vincents and would advise anyone to come along and train.

Id recommend St vincents anyday
Mick and Chris are lovely fellas
and none of their boxers have egos theyll all come over, say "oreet" and shake your hand.
Just watch out for that Big dodgy fella called Ross tho :P
Mick is a nice man. I'm pleased to hear he is making a go of things down there.
