View Full Version : Help from a Mac user, please...

I'm trying to convert one of my ebooks (HTML, compiled into an exe) to run on a Mac, and have therefore converted each page to pdf format, before compiling (those) into one main pdf.
Seem to be stuck with Adobe : can't find an "attractive" way of making a presentation that will run on both Windows and Mac, unless, as Esther used to say, "you know differently..."
I'm concerned about the "look" of the finished pdf - some of the text looks blurred to me, and it would appear as though the user would have to use the zoom (too often, IMO) to in/out on different pages.
It might be the fact that I'm looking at it on a Windows PC - it may be better (or worse?!) actually viewed on a Mac....and I haven't got access to one.
I'm really after a volunteer with a Mac to have a quick gander at the file (don't worry! It's not War and Peace! Just 17 pages!) to see what it "looks like" on their box of tricks...
Only need one or two folk, by the way, so please don't think I'm ungrateful if I get "deluged with offers" and you hear no more!
Presume anybody interested would have to give me their email addresses (PM better, I think) and I'll send the zipped pdf file.
Thanks in advance....

I've a G3 iMac if you want to test some older kit with your stuff...?

btw, if the books are created in HTML, would it not be easier to find a way to pack them up into a Mac app (the equivalent of a .exe) than trying to do it through PDFs??

It's finding a 'Mac app' that's the problem!
Toyed with Keebook, (which can display across both platforms apparently)....also Bytepad's eBook (PDF again) Writer...
There are many (too many?) compilers to produce exe jobs - and the few I've tried make very attractive presentations, but as far as I can see, you seem to be stuck with Adobe in the case of a Mac equivalent.
Did you have a 'Mac app' in mind?

No, sorry... i've never made an 'eBook'.

Does this article (http://software.newsforge.com/article.pl?sid=06/07/18/152227) help you any??

Thanks Moonlight - will have a gander...
Another possible problem has struck me since my last weight tome to you - I would have to be able to use the 'Mac app' on my Windows box-of-tricks to compile it!

oh aye! oops.

but if the code is based on HTML, then there must be a way of doing it...

Good grief, Moonlight!
You've moved me into Palm and Pocket PC territory with that article!!
I would also have reservations about using an application called "Plucker"!

(Call me old-fashioned, but if you were clever enough to develop a no-doubt complicated series of codes, would you not dispense with the idea of calling it "Plucker"?!
Maybe after a beer or three, but......!)
