View Full Version : Manchester,Chester,Liverpool,Blackpool Forum?
sunnydaze 03-08-2004, 14:00 Hi
Does anybody out there come from anywhere in the North West area?or can anyone tell me if there are popular online forums like sheffieldforum.co.uk for Manchester,Chester,Liverpool,Blackpool etc.. that covers just about everything???
As a resident of Liverpool, I'm afraid I don't know of any comprehensive forums quite like this one. Which is a shame actually.
I tend to frequent the Liverpool section of Skyscrapercity.com which is primarily a forum for those interested in architecture, new buildings, old building and all kinds of development, but which also touches on other topics relevant to the city. However, it doesn't have the broad user base that Sheffield Forum has.

Unfortunately, the BBC local forum websites are awful and practically unusable. And that applies to both Liverpool and Sheffield versions.
Sorry!
I'm also a Liverpool ex-pat. As above, I know of no such forum in Liverpool. I think sheffield has a bit more of a community spirit than Liverpool. I think the reason could be because sheffield is more compact as a city centre, so we all go to the same places and do similar things. ie drink in the same bars and eat in the same eating establishments. Most of us can come here to discuss sheffield type things knowing that there will be a fair few people that will relate to us. I may be completely wrong, but just a thought.
maybe sheffield folk are just friendlier;)

I Don’t think it has anything to do with the people, more to do with the geography of different cities. For example in Manchester and Liverpool, you feel like you're in a massive metropolis. Everything is so spread out, so the population of the city is spread out too. As has been mentioned many times, Sheffield is more of a town centre than a city centre. We feel a bit more community like here because there are more of us per shop/bar/restaurant/comunal space etc... so there are more of us to talk about similar things. Quite often someone will find this forum by searching for a Sheffield related topic on the internet and getting directed here. After a while they end up chatting about non Sheffield topics too, in fact just chatting in general, meeting up etc...
I'm not sure exactly what I’m on about yet; it's just an initial loose idea. I’ll have to have a think about it.
alchresearch 03-08-2004, 17:01 I live in Manchester but am a pretty regular participant of the forum. I did leave for a while around Xmas when it was just getting full of jerks and bad attitudes. I thought it had gone but it does seem to be returning in a couple of topics.
I don't think I'd go on a Manchester Forum. I use this one to keep in touch with happenings in Sheffield. I find proper web news services pretty rubbish in comparison. Where else would I find out about the dumping of banana skins or mysterious explosions at 4am?
Anyway, I lived in Woodhouse for over 25 years and I love the fact that although it's the 21st century, residents still refer to the centre as "the village"!
