View Full Version : KFC Breeding Chickens?
Is it only me that didn't know this?
I LOVE KFC but have gone off it since hearing why it's name changed from Kentucky Fried Chicken.
They are no longer allowed to call it Chicken because they are breeding their own chickens with no feathers so that the skin is softer...
I won't be having any more, surely this is so wrong?!
Don_Kiddick 02-10-2006, 18:36 Mmmm baldy chicken mmmM :P

Don_Kiddick 02-10-2006, 18:42 Now lets talk about our Christmas turkeys that are bred & interbred so they have superfast weightgain & muscle mass, so much so they can barely walk.
Thanks for that Andy...
This will make for an interesting debate. Does that make it better or worse?? They're not animals, they won't feel anything so having no feathers, feet or beaks doesn't bother them but do we really want to be eating genetically modified 'things'?
And does this mean that veggies can eat KFC? As you're not killing an animal?
The site refered to says that this story is one of a long line of 'urban myths' and untrue.

Not if you know where you're buying from ;)
The only reason they changed it was because they wanted to get rid of the word 'Fried', in case anyone might have thought that it was in any way unhealthy.
KFC counts towards your five a day.
sorry didn't read link properly... you'll have to excuse me I've been sedated today and am still a bit dopey

It goes on to mention, that it would be very impractical for a company of KFC's size to maintain huge chicken growing farms. The company, like all others, gets it's supplies from standard farming outlets. Plus the fact that our science isn't yet advanced enough to produce such artificial creatures.
This myth has been around since I was in school (12 years ago).

Buy them?
We always pinch a frozen one, R-lass can get a 14 pounder down her kex and still have room for a bottle of Baileys. :hihi:

Yep sorry, posted above that I'd gone onto read the whole lot. Brain's not in gear today!
I did think it'd be cheaper to use real chickens than keep them all on tubes etc...
Not to mention, my KFC Chicken has never had much meat on it... and the bones are not extra small :suspect:

Baileys wi' christmas dinner? :gag:
Anyway, on topic. I was just about to eat (what I thought was going to be) KFC when Lottie told me about their chickens. :gag: :hihi:
But... If its not true, (which I think is improbable, otherwise they'd be breeding humans for their blood, and that kinda thing) then why do people have to spin such large webs of lies just to make people stop buying food from a certain chain?
Just tell some people 'it'll make ya fat' and they won't go there anymore. Or just look at the prices, and they DEFINATELY won't be going there anymore. :hihi:

Shocking. Bleee Chickens scare me. They're the only reason I'm not a vegetarian. I couldn't live without chicken, I'd die.

It seems it's not true but that's not saying KFC is any good.
Seems to have gone to the dogs over the last few years.
seriessix 02-10-2006, 19:41 Indeed, it was an epicurean paradise only a few years ago.

That idea really took off then, the article was dated 4 years ago!!

:o You're not spozed to give chicken to the dogs, especially if has them bones init :shakes:
:hihi:
I agree actually, KFC certainly isn't as good as it used to be. I like their fillets and pop corn chicken etc but the meat on the bone has become really rather pants... and more worryingly, often pink.

You're right there, which is why I always have their crispy strip thingys. Their chips (and I know they're not chicken, before someone points it out) are also quite pants. :gag:

 I'm at a loss for words
Kentucky Fried chicken was originally cooked in pressure cookers and all the chicken was fresh but chilled. The switch to frozen birds and deep friers has made the difference, I think.
