Hi everybody
I was wondering if anybody can give me any advise about how i can stop my cat scratching and pulling up my carpet?
He only does it when we go to bed and lock him out of the room, he scratches the carpet next to the door in order to be let in. Ive tried putting books over the bit where he pulls but he manages to pull them away.
Help!!!

my mum has a special piece of wood cut to the right shape that she puts over the carpet, if not maybe he would like a scratching post? It sounds more like he does not like being on his own at night and would like to be cuddled on the end of your bed....

Try taping some tin foil down where he likes to scratch - cats can't stand the stuff!
This worked for ours when they were scratching where they shouldn't.

Thanx for your replies. I think the main problem is that when we first got him he used to sleep in the bedroom with us.
But weve recently adopted an 8 week old kitten who has been pooing on the carpet in the bedroom, i put the litter tray in the bedroom but the smell was vile and always woke me up. So i moved both cats beds, litter trays and scratching posts into the back room. Now were woken every morning around half 5 to the cat scratching to get in our bedroom.

so why does the door need to be shut?
Put pepper down where he scratches.

On my furniture, I place double sided sticky tape, they dont like it on their paws, and for a bonus it collects all the cat hairs too.

Double sided sticky tape, sandpaper (scratchy side out) and foil are all pretty nasty on the paws so cats usually avoid them.
Another practical solution would be to make the back room really comfortable for them, and shut them in there overnight- then if they scratch at anything, it won't be the door to your room and you can sleep in peace.

Hello NEVER put pepper down this can do more harm than good ! cats have at least 10 times our smell ability you carnt imagen what damage you can do by this act .
I would recomend you get a scratching post and spray some cat nip on so the cat ill be attracted to this rather than the carpet if this dosent work open the door might be easyer lol
I have 10 cats so if you need any help further please get back happy to help
i would certainly Not try th pepper the cat will be hurt not a nice way of doing it
