After reading the thread heralding the demise of the 'clubbing scene'
I thought I would ask this question.

If your not 15 years old or off your head on alcopops or something else, where in the city centre can you go for a nice drink a good conversation and variety?

Rockers 'old school' don't have much option

... and the average joe seems to have to do battle at the bar against a hoard of teenagers and students to pay for overpriced watered down fizzy lager or nasty bottled beers to stand all evening in a corner avoiding being thrown up on.

There are a few un touched venues which seem to attract the discerning drinker but these are all down back alleys and dark side streets, so where is there to go in the city centre if you just want to meet up with friends for a drink and a chat without the periphery of screaming chugging students and the heavy backbeat of 'dance' music.

Every venue in the city centre seems to cater for the 17-25 year old age bracket and nobody else.

??

or am I just being arsey?

I recommend the Dove and Rainbow on Hartshead Square (behind Bankers Draft / Argos) - it's a now a rock pub! :-)

The Washington is good for a chilled out drink and they don't shut until about 1230 on weekends.

No, the Management MOVEd to a new venue around the corner, a smaller bar with a live band room upstairs....The old dove and Rainbow is very much alive and kicking as a rock pub.......and will get better!
