View Full Version : The independent anti- Big Brother thread

Since views against Big Brother (and all reality TV pap for that matter) have been censored from the "official" Big Brother thread, here is the official anti-Big Brother thread. Do you hate Big Brother? If so, why?

To me, Big Brother is tabloid television aimed at people with nothing better to do other than watch a group of (freaky) strangers sitting around in a house, holding a pathetic and desperate hope that they will reveal some flesh. The longer the programme has run, the more apparent this has become. Indeed, judging by pictures I have had the misfortune of seeing, Big Brother is nothing but a softcore pornography programme. I have nothing against this in itself, but it is aired on a mainstream television station and because of the prime time broadcasting and 24/7 coverage on E4, the programme is popular amongst children and youngsters. If people are so desperate to see a bit of skin, there are plenty of pornography channels out there. If people want to see other people sitting around talking, there are plenty of pubs out there too.

There are several by-products of Big Brother that make it impossible to avoid. Adverts and features find themselves all over the internet and Big Brother headlines stare at you from the trashy tabloids the moment you enter a newsagent. There are also the copycat programmes that try to jump on the bandwagon. The way the viewers of this trash become on first name terms with the contenders as if they know them personally is a pathetic symptom. The worst by-product though has to be the 15 minute of fame grabbing contenders who, win or lose, will inevitably find themselves a job on a low brow daytime TV show or find some other job in the media. This must be so depressing for the many hardworking people who have to work their way up to becoming well paid presenters - to have some Chav who took part in Big Brother and got her tits out jump the queue and steal the job.

In summary, I despise Big Brother and all of the similar reality TV shows out there.

It's hard to disagree with any of what you say. It's all true. Human nature being what it is, though, people (women and teenage girls mostly) will continue to lap up this kind of *****. That's the nature of the beast, unfortunately.

I wouldnt let it bother you its only a tv program - after all, what else do you want the sort of people who watch/ appear on it (which i assume are people you dislike) to be doing in the meantime? They could be walking the streets - you could bump into them. Wouldnt that be awful for you. Be grateful its on.

I don't like this show, so I turned off my television and I don't watch it !

I'm a bit confused as to why this thread exists, I thought there was only one big brother thread allowed on this forum ?

I couldn't agree more with you t020, the way the media spews it out as though we actually need it is pathetic and an insult to the majority of the population.
For me the concept of it is just the same as going round to my next door neighbours house and watching them ... eat, drink, chat, sleep, *****, shower and shave.

I find the whole thing more annoying than a gay man's voice.

Yes I think t020 hit the nail on the head here.

I even had to stop watching C4 news when they ran a story on it FFS.

It is 'entertainment' of the lowest order

As for the off button, unfortunately it doesn't have the power to cut all BB "goss" from the news, newspapers, the produced "celebs", etc.

Let's look at the stats people - 38 million (or however many) chavs, criminals and degenerates watching BB means 38 million less on our streets at night.

I'm sure it's more than a coincidence that crime figures are dropping?

The annoying thing is you can't get away from it. Its all well and good saying switch off the telly but you can't watch the news, pick up a newspaper, listen to a radio show, post on a forum without being subjected to endless drivel on this brain numbing pointless televisual excercise...hope it never graces our screens again after this series!!

Can't people just ignore it? There's obviously nothing more important going on or else it wouldn't be in the newspapers. In fact you should be happy that you're not being subjected to more drivel about David Beckham's love-life, because if it wasn't for Big Brother, I'm sure that is what would fill the void.

Also, I think you'll find that most of the broadsheets don't give a rats-ass about BB either, maybe you should try reading them.

Can I also point out, that thanks to people like t020, there are now 2 BB topics on the forum. So now it's even harder to get away from...

I don't see what the problem is, sure people like or don't like BB, but to have 2 seperate threads on more or less the same subject is a bit silly IMO.

Can't the Mods create a temporary BB board with sub forums for BB fans and one for the haters, with one big sticky thread in each for comments/news etc rather than loads of seperate threads?

It would make sense would it not?

Sidla

I don't want to merge them, the official topic is for fans of the show.

Credit where it's due... the 2 separate threads are entirely your doing since you decided to over rule the forum T&Cs and declare the Big Brother thread a positive-comments-only thread.

That's because if I'd allowed anti-BB comments it would have turned into a flaming match which would not really have gone very far.

You're the one who wanted an anti BB topic

All "reality TV" programmes will have fans and haters. Personally BB is mind numbingly boring, yet apparently it can make a millionairess out of thick, no talent Jade Goodie. This can only be because of the number of people interested in the contestants.
What annoys me is that the other channels, instead of putting out something worth watching as an alternative, decide to jump on the same bandwagon. House painting, garden digging, driving lessons, let's go back to the potter's wheel or even the test card. I may just contact the TV companies cos shortly I'll be painting the garden fence while the wife has a driving lesson, then I'll make some toast. Think I've got a hit on my hands there.

By the way negative BB comments only...any positive free speech comments will hopefully be deleted by a mod to be consistent.

Dunno mate!

If you find out how, do drop us a line :)

Or just don't visit the forum. Your posting is only adding to the BB publicity :nono:
