hello, tried to put this on a Fedora box but after putting all the required rpms on and installing it, when I tried running it it just gave me loads of error messages. I just wanted to use mencoder to convert some wmv to avi. Is it known to be tricky (the usual 2 days of hair pulling!) or my box?
Thanks,

Thanks,
It comes with every 'decent' Linux Distro i've ever seen ;)
mplayer spits out a load of info, many of which are usually not errors, simply information about the file being played.
You may need to download some more codecs from their site, as the distro's can be careful not to include anything that may get them sued. A lot of the codecs have patents which means that you should pay to use them. Well, if your in the US, we don't, yet, allow such patents.
Sounds like it's down to my box, thanks for the info :)
If you have Fedora Core 5 (or maybe even earlier) you can just run
yum -y install mplayer mplayer-skins mplayer-fonts
which should do the lot & sort out any dependencies
If you have FC3 or earlier you may have to sort out the yum repositories in /etc/yum.conf first, change all the URLs in un-commented lines from download.fedora.redhat.com/yada/yada to mirrorservice.org/sites/download.fedora.redhat.com/yada/yada & it will use a nice fast British mirror site.
