Mmmm :D I love sweetcorn - my mum brought us loads from her allotment too and it was fantastic.

Where did you get your garlic sets Cris? I went to buy some over the weekend but my local garden centre didn't have any in :(

Theres nothing like home grown sweetcorn is there ? What are Japanese onion sets,as opposed to ordinary onions.?

got my garlic from Dobies (free delivery), the bulbs are enormous. I couldn't find anything in the garden centres last year - they seem to go from summer bedding to Christmas tat overnight.

Have to confess that I don't know the difference between normal onions and Japanese onions, except that I think Japanese onions are over wintering, whereas normal onions are planted in the spring ... maybe someone knowledgeable will be along in a mo ...

So what you're basically admitting is that you don't know your onions? :D

Japanese onions are indeed grown over winter, and you can get a bag of 50 for 90p right now in Wilkinsons

They will be ready late Spring early Summer.

Mine are going in this weekend.

mc55, do you have a handy link to Dobies please?
Is all their stuff free delivery?

I got some garlic sets from Fosters Garden Ctr Thrybergh, Rovvrem.

Hi DK - here is the link for Dobies: http://www.dobies.co.uk/index.html

This is their P&P policy taken from website:

How much are your carriage (P&P) charges?
All seeds and easy-grow plants are delivered carriage free. As products from our ranges of potatoes, bulbs, fruit, perennial roots and shrubs, wild bird care and garden equipment are heavier than our standard range, we ask you to contribute £3.95 towards postage & packing - regardless of how many items you order.

Is Fosters worth a visit ?

Thanks for that :)

Fosters is good, we like it.
It has an 'antique centre' upstairs & a café for a hot choccy & sticky bun too.

They're just decking out one hall for Christmas.
It doesn't have seed potatoes right now though, but that's the only time I've ever been disappointed there.

Accross the yard is their pet shop & pond place.

It's all well stocked & quite big too.

Worth a trip out.

I'm convinced :D Actually we have a car this weekend so I can take a trip over to Rovvrem on Sunday!

All I need now is to find the energy to dig over my veggie patch and get some garlic sets planted :suspect:
