View Full Version : October Knitalong: any ideas?
Does anyone fancy a knitalong for October? I must admit that my knitting has taken a bit of a back seat to college stuff in the last couple of weeks, so I haven't given the idea much thought.
Any ideas, suggestions or recommendations - post them here :) .
I haven't got any ideas but i'd like to join in!
Well, the projects I have lined up are Eowyn (http://www.englishyarns.co.uk/images/rowan/aug2005/mag38/ExpressiveElegance/Eowyn_L.jpg) and Daisy (http://royalyarns.com/ptrn/RNW/RW-Mag38/images/Scarf-Daisy-Rowan.jpg), both from Rowan 38; the Mrs Beeton (http://www.knitty.com/ISSUEwinter05/PATTmrsbeeton.html) wristwarmers and the Thuja socks (http://www.knitty.com/issuewinter05/PATTthuja.html), both from Knitty. If anyone is interested in those.
Ohh, I like daisy! Which yarn does it use and how much? Not sure if i've got that Rowan mag though

I don't have the magazine to hand, but I'll check the details about the yarn and post later.
I think the Rowan magazine is still available, though I must admit I haven't checked. It's still on the Rowan website (http://www.knitrowan.com/html/magazines_profile.asp?productCode=ZM38) though.
Just found the details for Daisy here (http://www.laughinghens.com/knitting-pattern-page.asp?patternpageid=2983).
Well i'm still on septembers knitalong :o :hihi: *smacks own wrist* i must get back to 'fetching', i want to wear them but i've been knitting my first sock whenever i take something out to knit...part of the reason though is because i've lost one of my dpns that i was using to knit fetching, gonna have to get hunting for it again. I would say i'm interested in 'Daisy' but i don't think i should take on another project until i've finished one of the three on the go. I really need to get on with that baby cardi too as i want it to be Gabrielles christmas present. I'd also have liked to knit 'knucks' before xmas too but i can't see that happening.
Knucks is very fiddly, so I'd suggest that you finish the cardi first. They're not really difficult, but the knitting all the fingers then joining them together can be a bit time-consuming.
At the minute, I've got the bead cast-on done for the Mrs Beetons (took bloody ages; I ended up having to cast-on onto a larger straight needle, rather than the correct sized dpn because I was doing it so tightly), about three-quarters on the Embers hot water bottle cover and a few rows of the lacey top I started ages before Clapotis and which has been sat on a stitch holder ever since.
I really should get something finished too, but I would like to make a start on Daisy or maybe Eowyn  .
Now I've seen the front cover of the Rowan mag, I know I've got it. Having to cut spending down at the mo but Daisy is one of my to do things!
How about I post a poll at the end of the week with all the suggestions anyone makes for the knitalong? If there are no more ideas by, say, Friday, I'm happy to not bother with a poll and do Daisy :) .
No knitalong for me this month I'm afraid. I have far to much stuff on the needles, and none of them are getting done. It's still interesting watching other people's stuff though..
beansforyou 02-10-2006, 19:26 I won't be able to join in again, although I might end up doing it at another time again
I've got too much on with my own knitting and spinning, and hopefully getting the RR & SSS off the ground at a later date.
I do like the look of daisy but I dont think I would be able to partake, becasue I have too many OTN and also my course has started and that will take up a lot of time.
You could call in and collect some pink yarn and knit a scarf for the Weston Park cancer appeal fundraiser. I joined in the appeal and want to create a huge pink ribbon made of pink scarves for the window display (best dressed judged on 19th October). As this falls in National Knittting Week and is a great cause, I asked the yarn companies to sponsor it by donating pink yarn. They all agreed. More yarn donations should be arriving at the end of the week. All scarves will be offered for sale on the 21st October to raise further funds for the appeal. You can call in and knit one or take the yarn away. Either way, if you give me a nudge I can get the kettle on....
