Is there anywhere in Sheffield that sells bicycles? I am looking for a mens mountain bike but the ones in Decathlon are a bit too expensive.

James cycles have a good range - they're on Bramhall lane I think.

I think you may be struggling if you think Decathlon bikes are too expensive - they start from around £100!

However, somewhere like Argos may sell bikes even cheaper? Alternatively you could try something second hand, or even eBay.

There's a shop in Attercliffe called 'Recycle'. They sell second bikes. (No idea about the prices though)

If you find the bikes in Decathlon too expensive then I'm affraid you're not going to get a decent mountain bike within your budget. Your best bet is probably to buy secondhand. I bought my current bike for about £400 - should have been over £1000. Near the city centre, J.E.James is probably about the best shop but they're not cheap. Halfords on Queens Rd. sometimes have some bargains - often offering 0% finance on selected bikes.

Have a look at some of the online sites (there's loads) that have classified sections

It is a French superstore sports chain. On St Mary's Roundabout.

You could give Butterworths a try but I don't know if they cater for Mountain bikes.

If you decide to go secondhand have a look at the classifieds section on http://www.singletrackworld.com.

There are loads of bikers on there that will be willing to help.

Cheers,

Pete

James also offer 0% finance on all bikes (although there is an admin charge of about £25).

James and Halfords both do "price match". So if you find a bike on t'net, and they have it in stock the shops will sell you it at the same price.

When buying any bike, the more you pay the better bike you get. They all tend to use the same components in stepped price brackets.

Thinking about this thread, there must be thousands of bikes laying forgotten in garages and sheds around Sheffield. Some people do take perfectly good bikes to the tip, I've seen them in the skips, why doesnt some enterprising soul sell them on a market like they do in Boston as cheap as chips.

Does your work have a cycle to work scheme? You might be able to get a bike on the cheap and pay in tax free installments...
