I have a PC with XP operating system. Suddenly its started running slower than usual, and sometimes says I am low on Virtual Memory.
Tried running cleaning software, defragging, deleting temp files and cookies, still quite slow.
Any ideas anyone?

Virtual, memory is a setting that allows you to set the amount of memory used and assigned to applications. It can be increased or decreased. If it is set low it may not assign enough memory for the applications that you are opening therefore Slow performance with PC.
If you increase this setting it will make more available so you can have better performance
How much spare space have you got on your C drive?
And have you installed any new software recently?
And have you run an anti-virus sweep?
Cheers Toby, any idea how I increase the setting please? :)
Got over 100GB spare on the drive, not installed anything new for ages, virus sweep is clean too

Yeah,
Its control panel
then double click system icon
then advanced tab
Performance, click settings button
then advanced tab
then change virtual memory at bottom
set Minmum higher and maximum. This will allocate resources withing this, find a happy medium and it should use these values when apps opened on the Drive. Sounds like you should have plenty of space available to set quite high if required.

I read this thread out of interest and tried the above advice. I increased min + max a little bit, not too much, and found my programs and web pages loading noticably faster. Cheers for that .

:hihi: mobile phones have more than that!
sorry... couldn't resist. You obviously meant 512MB.
So, 512MB RAM and 100GB of free HDD space... i don't see how you're managing to get virtual memory warnings!
.
you have scanned for virii and spyware haven't you
