why am i loosing connection? it happens after about 10 to 15 mins

noise on the line
general heavy usuage with your isp
your computer


id start by scanning for viruses and spyware


does it do it all day every day?
if so id rule out the heavy usuage....that normally goes at certain times during the day

too many people using the isp together

all you can do about that is...........only go on off peak (when theres less people online)

change isp to one that can cope with the amount of people they have


i think its down to 2 factors
large isps always have the most people obviously
smaller isps with more people than their smaller eqipment / lines can cope with

im on pipex and been disconnected about 3 times in 2 years :P

Currently, it seems that work is going on in exchanges for ISP's to offer the "up to 8Mb" service.
Since that has been going on I, and several friends, have been experiencing frequent disconnections.
They promise that it should settle down.

I'm with Tiscali and have been getting 5 or 6 disconnects per day for the last 2 weeks or so.

I'm with Orange and went through a period of getting disconnected, I got the error 680 no dial tone message, after a few calls to Orange they told me it was a problem at my exchange (Intake), it's now sorted itself out but if I do any speedtests I'm told there's an incompatability with my line.

What connnection speed are you on? Possible you maybe near the maxium SNR for your line.

Ask BT to check your line.I kept getting the no dial tone error message.
The BT line was repaired which entailed digging up next door's garden and the pavement.
Everything OK now.
Having repaired my line they managed to disconnect next door's. It took a week for him to be reconnected!
He was not a happy bunny

it could be lots of users on sf, or lots of people on your isp / net aswell

best time? daytime, or after 12 at night for your isp
BUT other large countries like the US will prolly be online after our 12am aswell
