Had never been there before until last night but we decided to look in. Walked up to the door they wanted £4 just to get into the bar so we thought we'd go across the round. Door manager comes running out saying we'll let you in for £2. We thought yeh that sounds reasonable. My mate decided to get our drinks in: -

1 JD n Coke
4 Orange Reefs

.........£15

Same round at most decent places would of been under £10.

Anyone else go there? I won't be again lol. :loopy:

Under £10? On a Friday night? Let me know and I will drink in there more often too. You may get that kind of round for about £12.50 ish....doubt under £10 on a Friday.

Mate dunno where you usually drink, working mens clubs maybe?

But £15 is about right for that round, in my bar it would be £15 also

Reefs £3.10, JD £2.20, Coke 40p

Yeah maybe but is it proper spirits or cheap crap that you have heavily watered down?

:D Plug alert..

Smirnoff red vodka
Bulleit bourbon (which is more expensive than jd btw)
Havana blanco rum
Malibu
Archers
Baileys
Tanqueray gin

Dbl + Baby mixers (ie tonic, ginger, redbull) = £3.50

Members get 50p discount too..

DQ has a pretty rubbish reputation from before we took over, but look at some posts on the forum. Don't get chance to go to takapuna much cos I'm generally working but it's definitely one of the better venues in town..

Don't get me wrong.. I charge £3 for reefs :D

Yeh lol, I'll generally stick to reef/vk sort of drinks as I'm not really a beer drinker. Or, I'll get plenty of shots to do the job properly lol.

Looking at what I put I agree it was probably being a bit on the cheap side estimating a tenner. I'm more used to places like hallam union/flares/Corporation where things like VK are £1.25 or so. lol We were in a group of about 10 and we all agreed it was a rip off so I couldn't of been that far wrong :P.

What can I say. I'm a student, we're meant to be cheapo lol. Me and my mates tend to go out when it's hallam specific nights so the rounds of drinks we usually get are really cheap.

Reef does tends to cost around £1.80-£2.40 when I normally buy it (which is why I probably said £10 for the round). Think corporation used to sell them for around 2 for £2 on a Friday night ages ago as well.

Haha.. Cheapo ;P Damned right we're cheapo. Why not? I like getting wasted for as little as poss when I'm out. Certainly don't have to be in an expensive bar to enjoy ourselves. Hence the mention of flares, union and corp lol.

fairly irrelevant now. but for the record all the 500-568ml ciders were £3.

particularly the absolutely wonderful Kopperberg Pear Ciders...

Christ, if you think that's expensive, you should go to Pacha. I ordered 2 San Miguels, a vodka and red bull and a bottle of water, and it came to 45 euros!

If you want to get wasted for as little as possible, buy a bottle of cheap vodka from Netto and some panda cola and drink it at home.

This post is the funniest thing i have read today. I don't think that £3 a drink is so unreasonable on a Friday night in a big(gish) city centre. You would probably be better off going "across the round" whatever that means. I assume you mean to reflex where all the cool people hang out drinking alcopops whilst dancing to the original versions of current commercial dance tracks.

Takapuna do some really good offers midweek, and at weekends until 9pm, though i don't think reef is covered mate, but vodka and orange is £1.50.

Excuse me while i get down from my high horse, sorry about that.

You should only ever buy bottles of anything if they are on offer, you will always be mercilessly ripped off otherwise.

I meant road :P lol. Takapuna ain't the type of place I'd normally go as the music sucks for me. Can take cheesy pop at most, but RnB does my nut if there for too long lol.

Anyway, it isn't just me who thinks the place is a rip off on weekends. Atleast I'm not alone in being a tighta*** lol.

Bottles of Stella were £1.50 last night. Don't normally drink the stuff, but went down well at that price at the Comedy Club.

If it isn't the kind of place you would normally go, don't start slagging it off. I shop at Tesco but i don't slate Waitrose or M&S which will obviously sell the same or similar products for a more expensive price. You clearly don't have the capacity to try new things with an open mind. Maybe you should conduct a survey and rate all of the bars in the city centre instead of picking on one. My guess is that your favourite will be one of 3. Flares, Reflex or Wetherspoons (though you'll probably moan that they weren't playing your type of music!)

'woo-hoo, 5 drinks for £15!!' rather than biggest rip-off bar.

That would cost you anywhere between £16-25 in London. Think yourself lucky!!

As I daresay others have replied, you expect to pay slightly more for drinks in the better bars in Sheffield.

On the other hand, you could spend the whole night in a Wetherspoons pub downing cheap drinks, but that would assume you had undergone some kind of full frontal lobotomy.

Yeah it was cheap in there I had one - also as I actually turned up late for comedy (being detained by a guy in another bar) I actually didnt get charged so I saved another 7 quid also :))

Would that be the man in a suit, he was rather dishy.

Anyway back to the subject : well some of the Forummers was in there last night and at £1.50 a bottle of Stella ALL NIGHT, went down well.

If its expensive to some of you, then dont go, there are plenty of other pubs on West Street.
