View Full Version : Knitting Group Members: Where are we all from?

In response to Turra's observation that the knitting group folk will soon be identifiable on the streets of Sheffield by the rash of Clapotis wearing, LisaH wondered whether most of us actually live outside Sheffield.

So, where do we all live? Do you have a Sheffield connection at all?

Poll to follow in a minute :) .

I was born in Sheffield, but left for uni in '92. I'm in Leicestershire at the moment, but I'd like to move back to Sheffield at some point. I still think of it as home.

I really should have added the option to identify who posted in the poll; the results will probably be skewed by a few non-knitting group folk posting. I can't edit it now, but I'll alter the thread title...

I'm from the Black Country by birth, but I came up here to Uni in 1988 and never went home again.

According to some people I qualify for my whippet and flat hat in 2 years as a naturalised Yorkshirewoman.

Yep I noticed that the knitting group appeared to have grown - either that or we have closet knitters out there who havent come out yet :hihi:

I'm from Nottinghamshire, came to Sheffield 2 years ago for university. I'm not very attached to the place though and still see Notts as my home even though i have a lovely flat here in Sheffield. I can't see me staying around in Sheffield long when i've finished my degree.

Only thing is...i didn't knit a clapotis and i am in sheffield :hihi:

Excellent - that must mean I have 3 years left to serve:D Saying that though Ive spent longer living in Sheffield than anywhere else and nearly half of my lifetime:o

Just moved out of Sheffield and live in Nottingham now. I had my baby girl just over a month ago and she was born in Derby, which I think's a bit sad really as I would have really liked her to be born in Sheffield and not down here.

Barnsley here...not Sheffield but borders on it. Although I did live in York for a couple of years at uni at one point. I also have no Clapotis... *sob sob*

I must be the ODD one out. Born in Middlesbrough, had a nomad life for 5 years then settled in Cambridgeshire, moved to Norfolk then onto Scotland.
No affiliation to Sheffield at all in fact I've never even been there:blush:
Home is where I am.

I was born in Doncaster, live in Bramley (the Rotherham one) for 8 years but have lived in Dinnington for 22 years!

Its sort of in the middle of everywhere. We have a Sheffield postcode, Worksop telephone number and we're under Rotherham Council. When we try to explain where we are usually, its easy to just tell people we're near Sheffield.....

I moved up to Sheffield from Leamington Spa for university, in 2000 and stayed. I've got a clapotis (in Colinette Lasso) and a bottle of Henderson's in the kitchen. Does this mean I can be naturalised?

I've never been guilty of saying 'nah then', even when I lived in Sheffield, and I couldn't cook a Yorkshire pudding to save my life! I do, however, have three bottles of Hendersons in the cupboard, and my mum makes the world's best Yorkshire puddings. I think I might just qualify as a Sheffielder stil  .

If I could actually buy the stuff in Leicester, I'd send you a bottle (my mum gets mine for me), It's a rich relish which you put on pies, cheese on toast - anything really. It's absolutely sublime. Have a look here (http://www.hendersonsrelish.com/).

I had never heard of it either until I started seeing my boyfriend who is from Sheffield. It must just be a Sheffield thing I'm sure.

I haven't cast my vote cos my option isnt there.
I've no "natural" connection to Sheffield, but Jules is my friend and its down to her that I found this forum.
I was looking for somewhere to talk knitting, and jules gave me the link.

Anyhoo, I live in Southsea, in Hants, right on the south coast.
You can actually see the sea from our block, but its about 10 mins walk away.
Apparently there's a Southsea in Wrexham as well.

Lesser version indeed! Apart from the fact that Sean Bean is meant to have it delivered to all his film sets, it's vegetarian! (Worcester sauce has fish in it) And you can't find anything better to out on veggie cottage pie.

On the "Ey up" factor, the only thing I can say in a passable sheffield accent is "Give over", though as it's a multitasking expression you can use it more often...

You mean 'ge oer' or, if you're slightly more posh, 'giv ovver'? Or was that just my family? :hihi: Ah, it's all coming back to me...

I was born in Sheffield and have lived here all my life (more years than I care to think about....:) )

I can nah then thee with the best of them but why oh why when there is a news item based in Sheffield do they always stop Gladys Thick of 43 Acacia Avenue for a question and answer session????? No wonder southerners think us up North are thick ;) (apologies to all southerners that haven't noticed this phenomenen and therefore think - quite rightly - that we Sheffielders are probably quite intelligent really....)
