I bought a computer last week and went onto broadband through bt (using a wanadoo disc as bt didnt send me one to actually connect)
I have google set as my home page
It has adt ?virus search on it and I've used it a couple of times.(nothing major and clear result this morning)
Now here's the quizzler - afer less than 7 days it keeps 'sticking'
At first occasionally it would take ages to aknowlege the line/download to flick to the next page as if there was no 'signal to respond to. put this down to busy? (even though I thought bband was spossed to stop this from landline type connection) heard google had problems.
but now mouse icon/pointer freezes every so often aswell becoming fairly regular combined with the time delay (and my clock is now 23 mins slow - though i'm not 100% sure it was true when installed but i haddn't noticed it before - perhaps gradual.
Ok diagnosis - could this be someone watching my computer or am i just paranoid, expecting to much from my computer or just unlucky to be hooked to bad conections at a bad time (google etc)
would i be better of going to this computer fair tomorror to ask people there?
your help and advice is much apreciated- see!! eciated in last word - had to wait for it to come on screen, and I cant type that fast!

I am not sure what the problem your having is, but I would strongly recommend a decent firewall program, that should ease your fears as regards a possible breach in security, which I doubt that it is, but better safe than sorry.

Have you tried contacting your ISP to enquire if there has been any problems at their end, this sounds more like a program running in the background that is causing the slow down of your browsing, please go to www.kry10.com and join the forum there and post your problem in greater detail, we have a lot of specialists who might be able to help you further.

there was a problem with google the other day, some virus causing a ddns attack.

If you're on broadband you should be running some sort of permanent anti-virus, as well as regular full sweeps, in addition you should make sure that you have downloaded every critical update available through the windows update facilty, you should use a firewall (zonealarm is recommended) and should probably run something like adaware or other malware detection software on a weekly basis.

As to the chance of an individual having singled you out for observation, it's highly unlikely.

When we first went onto broadband we noticed that our PC was running really slow and freezing at times. On the advice of a friend we installed adaware (free download) and when we first ran it, it removed over 200 bits of spyware(?). After running adaware and making sure we regularily delelte all cookies and temporary files etc it now runs fine.

Maybe worth a try.

we had a similar problem last week with our broadband. ran avg anti virus which found no infections so promptly phoned wanadoo who suggested testing our upstream/downstream speeds. where told that the downstream speed should be around 460kbps. ours was......7!!!!!!!!!. then checked the internet connection icon in the bottom right corner where the clock is. in the activity area recieved errors totalled 437. promptly tried plugging modem into the wall without any phone extensions and re-dialled. this solved the problem.
i know it may not be any help but just thought id try!!!!!!!!!!
