SpaceForm 27-09-2006, 11:38 Was there an explosion neat the SUFC training accademy last night? Roumers are going around the office that there was and that it was a bomb factory for terrorists. Police are said to be in heavy presence in the area. Can anyone confirm this as true?

SpaceForm 27-09-2006, 11:44 Nice one for quick replys.
I am very critical of the media these days covering things up. I called a friend who lives in the area and he said police were still there this morning.

Don't know about the terrorist bit, but yes there was an explosion, I live across the road from it. There is police everywhere at the moment, but they are not giving much info out. Only that we could be evacuated at some point.
holymoses 27-09-2006, 11:47 A girl at work, lives in the flat above the explosion, the whole block rocked about 7ish and the guy was thrown through the window in a ball of flames.
All the tenants have been evacuated.

Devine22 27-09-2006, 11:56 the time is irrelevant, just hope the poor guy will be ok.

Yes I agree, but if we are replying lets get the facts straight.
holymoses 27-09-2006, 12:05 I'm getting the info second and third hand. I did say "7ish".
Please don't shoot me!!
From SY Police:
"A man in his early 40s is believed to have suffered life threatening injuries after an explosion at a flat in Firshill, Sheffield yesterday evening, 26 September 2006.
The blast in Firshill Crescent blew out the front wall of a first floor flat and bedroom windows and also badly damaged the lounge.
Police were alerted by neighbours who reported a loud bang shortly after 6pm. Officers arrived to find a man on a grassed area in front of the flat. He was taken to a Sheffield hospital with serious injuries.
A number of other residents from the block of eight flats were evacuated as a precaution.
The Gas Board were called out to make the scene safe but the cause of the blast is still being investigated."
Surely if the Police decide the place needs evacuating, they have a duty to keep it secure? Hence the Police presence there today.
rooby_roo 27-09-2006, 13:16 It has been confirmed as a gas blast

Again from SY Police:
"Bomb disposal experts called in to examine to cause of the Firshill explosion have ruled out any chance that it was caused by an explosive device.
Further examination of the area is still continuing and Ch Insp Steph Widdowson says that it is now believed that yesterday's explosion in a first floor flat in a block of eight in Firshill Crescent was a tragic accident, possibly caused by gas igniting.
At around 12.30pm today police lifted the cordon that had earlier been extended around the flats while the experts examined the area. However there is still no access to the block of flats itself, which remains empty.
The man injured by the blast is this afternoon fighting for his life in the Northern General Hospital."
