Saw this on First's website, may be of help to some of you.
----
Due to the disruption to services caused by industrial action, customers who have purchased FirstWeek tickets that are valid during the strike will be able to continue to use their tickets for the corresponding number of lost days when services return to normal.

Customers with FirstMonth tickets dated for July 2004 will be able to claim two free South Yorkshire FirstWeek tickets for the lost days travel. At the end of July, expired FirstMonth tickets (validated for July 2004 only) should be sent to The Commercial Office, First, Olive Grove Road, Sheffield, S2 3GA. Alternatively, a reduced price FirstMonth ticket can be purchased (the price reduction will be based upon the number of days of industrial action).

Customers in possession of week or month Travelasters, BusMasters, SeniorMaster or monthly MetroMaster tickets will be able to claim a free day ticket for every lost day due to strike action from Transport Executive offices.

That's pretty good. I felt sure they'd have something in their terms & conditions along the lines of "if there's a strike/slight breeze/whiff of snow/full moon/new moon then tough luck". quite impressed they're doing that.

I think its one way that first will keep on the side of the public, possibly damage limitation. May have something to do with the contract with SYPTE seeing as there passes are compensated as well

Does anyone know what the possition is regarding Travelmasters bought once the strike had started?

I heard that they were not offering compensation for these, but surley people still have to travel somehow and still need to buy one.

I do the same I phoned up TravelLine.

If you buy a monthly pass you send them the pass at the end of the pass and they will send you daily scratch card for the days lost.

For people who buy a yearly one, via their work for example, they have to phone the commercial section. I was given a number which I will post when I get home or at some point this weekend.
