Has anyone else noticed the disproportionately large numbers of Vauxhall Astras compared to other cars in Sheffield?
Watch out for 'em the next time you're on the road.
What's that all about?

Out with the dog this lunchtime and of the ten or so vehicles that passed me, three were Jeeps and at least four were other types of large 4x4s, one City Link van (lost I expect :) - 'cos he was on the phone), and a couple of ordinary cars but I don't think they were Astras.

It might depend on where you live ??

Too many Vauxhalls full stop.

Bar the VX220 and Monaro I cant really think of a valid excuse for anyone buying one brand new. At least the stuka bomber level depreciation means that a 3rd hand buy isnt such a criminal act.

I never really noticed many Astras on the roads - until I bought one!

Tis the same with me, every car I have, there seems to be an increase in the same type of car on the roads.
I now see, like, 30 or so McLaren F1's on me travels each day, dig that! :loopy:

:hihi:

That's a psychological phenomenon called 'positive selection'. You see exactly the same number of Astras on the road as you saw before you got your car, but now you notice them more because you identify more with them.

It's exactly the same as when you get ill, every news bulletin seems to have a relevant story that's important to you, or when you fall pregnant lots of celebs are in the papers having babies.

It's actually the same number as was there before, you just didn't notice them in the same way before.

Well my Vectra saved my and my families life on the M1 on Sunday.

ABS and traction control did exactly what they should. As well as me looking far enough down the road to see the accident happening.

Not saying any other brand of car would not have done it, but we are still here. Thanx Vauxhall.

you cant judge a person by there car, ive got an astra but didnt get it by choice.

vauxhall engines are nightmares so i wouldnt expect that many people to have em.

I HATE 4x4's. They serve no purpose other than to kill pedestrians more efficiently and guzzle up fossil fuels. :(

Ive never owned a modern car (mine are 22-49 years old!!) but have to say the latest astra is quite good looking IMHO, unlike most others.

Being so common and depreciating so badly are what put me off Vauxhalls. Each to their own though

Its possibly down to the fact that there are 2 Reg Vardy dealerships in Sheffield knocking out Astra's as knock down prices but on over inflated credit terms.....allegedly:huh:

PS I don't drive an Astra by the way but I think I'm underachieving:suspect:

We have had an astra for years and i have to say it's been one of the most reliable cars I have ever owned. Perhaps that's why there are so many?

my brother drives an astra coupe and is overachieving in his underachievement.

I guess I am an underachiever as I have a vauxhall but not an astra:D

There is another reason why those heaps are so popular....they come free on Motability.

Go on to any estate in Town and look for the iffy looking people with tattoos, driving new Astra and you can bet the car was provided by Motability for their Grandad or some other elderly relative.

The funny thing is you very rarely find said elderly relative in the vehicle, as mostly the vehicle is used to take kids to school and trips to Argos and stuff.

The Government could save a fortune and get rid of all the abuses' of the well meaning Motability scheme by going back to providing those little blue Invacar's, like they had in the seventies
