hiya,

this is the first time I've posted in this group, so hello fellow animal lovers....!

I have a little pet mouse and he is suffering at the moment.

He seems to have mites (from the hay I presume).

He's under a treatment course through the vet (an injection every 10 days - total of 3 times)

He's due for his 2nd injection on friday but he is really itching, not eating/drinking very much and just sulking in a corner (not even in his bed)

I've removed all the hay, but he doesn't like his new bedding and kicks it out of his house.

Can anyone suggest anything that will help ease his itching and help him feel a little better?

Thanks x x x

Try some anti irritant cream, aloe vera I think, I've got some from pets at home and it's worked wonders on my guinea pig Orinoco

Welcome to SF Pets

you could have a read of a thread about dogs we have somewhere, as the stuff people have suggested applying will probably be the same

*goes to look*

I wouldnt recommend shampooing a mouse. It can be far to stressful for them.

I didn't really like using it much, but the vet gave me hydrocortisone gel for my guinea pigs (Pet hydrocortisone, didn't check to see if it's different to the human version). However, it was very serious as one was scratching herself until she had some fairly deep wounds. Seems to be quite a popular option for mites on some forums I've read.

I thought about trying this, as i sometimes have exzema and have some.

I'm going to the vets on friday so I'll ask him about this. My little fella has got his 2nd injection. hopefully he'll be feeling better soon.

He should be, it does take a while but the Ivomec injections really work. I'd expect about a week after the second injection you'll see a real improvement, good luck
