View Full Version : Schoolchild knocked down on Shirecliffe Rd Gadgetgirl 25-09-2006, 15:48 near the petrol station, at approx. 3.30pm police looking for witnesses Space 25-09-2006, 15:51 I went past it after it happened, there must have been 7 police cars and 4 ambulances there! I thought there was a major riot or something! Hope they are OK.... chickywiggle 25-09-2006, 16:33 oh no, hope the kid is ok. live round the area - have met/ taught lots of the kids. Lindseyw 25-09-2006, 16:34 Any news ? Is he/she ok ? Dozey 25-09-2006, 16:46 I bet it wasn't the kids fault, drivers don't know how to use their indicators nowadays,i've had a few near misses at that roundabout.the biggest culprits are the ones who make a left turn from Herries Rd on to Shirecliffe Rd,they come tearing round with no indicator showing.:loopy: Strix 25-09-2006, 16:51 That's about when the rain started. I wish drivers would grasp the fact that speed limits are a maximum for ideal conditions. When it's wet we're supposed to slow down, as braking distances increase dramatically.... and aquaplaning in this weather is highly likely :( I hope this kid is going to be okay :( saxon51 25-09-2006, 17:09 Anyone know the age of the poor kid please? Gadgetgirl 25-09-2006, 17:11 Senior school age, had a Parkwood sweater on. saxon51 25-09-2006, 17:20 Thanks Gadgetgirl. Hope s/he is not too serious. Gadgetgirl 25-09-2006, 17:23 dunno, lots of police and ambulance still there when I went past with the princess. There didn't seem to be any vehicle stopped other than the emergency services, so dunno if the car driver actually stopped, which would explain the police keen for witnesses. janine oxley 25-09-2006, 18:20 anyone know any more on this subject? Its quite distressing thinking about it, i only work 2 minutes down the road from there and heard all the sirens etc... does anyone know how badley the boy/girl was hurt?? candystick 26-09-2006, 13:01 Has anyone heard how the child is ? It's a terrible road to cross, my daughter has to cross this road and i wish there was a crossing but the nearest one is at Longley Ave west where the shops are and would probably take her an extra 15 minutes to walk to school, this stretch of road could really do with some crossings. Gadgetgirl 26-09-2006, 13:17 Its about time there was a crossing over Shirecliffe Road at the bottom. Leg-end 26-09-2006, 13:29 I bet it wasn't the kids fault, drivers don't know how to use their indicators nowadays,i've had a few near misses at that roundabout.the biggest culprits are the ones who make a left turn from Herries Rd on to Shirecliffe Rd,they come tearing round with no indicator showing.:loopy: That is an absolute fact. I grew up there and saw a few near misses. scarby 26-09-2006, 13:51 They blocked off the bottom of Shirecliffe Road, had to do a small diversion. I saw all the blues 'n' two's, wondered what was going off. Hope the kid is ok. skala 26-09-2006, 17:21 Anybody know the full story yet? I hope the child is ok! julz 26-09-2006, 17:26 I teach the boy's sisters, he's got bruised ribs etc, but thankfully nothing more serious. He only a little lad 7 or 8 I believe. Driver didn't stop though apparently, b*stard! skala 26-09-2006, 17:44 Thanx Julz, i hope they catch the scum that didnt stop! At least he'll recover from this! fartypants 26-09-2006, 19:50 the kid will be fine the're tuff little buggers round here:thumbsup: dan_999uk 26-09-2006, 20:54 There was a single ambulance car and an ambulance in attendance, not four. The driver involved did stop. The pedestrians did ignore the police tape and actually stepped over the patient and the ambuilance staff treating him. Gadgetgirl 26-09-2006, 21:01 Also the child concerned is a pupil at Parkwood so is older than previously suggested. kittenta 26-09-2006, 21:56 Parkwood is a secondary school isn't it 11 - 16 year olds? |
