hmmm... personally, tuition on musical instruments is a complete and utter waste of time, just listen 2 music and figure it all out by yourself...

well there are two schools of thought on this, i think it depends what you want to do with your instrument but i know from experience that if you want enough theory knowledge to break down a complex piece of music or you want to study harmony in any detail etc. etc. then the learning process is much much quicker with some guidance from a good teacher. however if you just wanna jam a bit and maybe write some simple songs then just choose a book carefully and play your instrument plenty!

It's not a complete waste. My advice for complete beginners is to have musical lessons for 1 year to 18 months and that will accelerate your ability no end. Anything beyond 18 months can be a bit pointless as I'd expect anyone who'd been learning regularly for that length of time to have the dexterity to take it from there.

Hi mate,

I teach guitar for beginners for £15 per hour. I am a firm believer in musical enjoyment and am involved in different fun and serious bands/projects and events around Sheffield. If you are interested, please feel free to give me a call anytime on (07890) 723580.

I would also agree with the previous thread. I teach guitar and still have lessons myself years down the road. I have not always had lessons but there are certain points and I would say the first year is one, where it can really benefit you. Of course there is no substitute for the love of your instrument so play as much along to things or on your own as you want, but guidance can often save much time and fustration.
