I have a 2year old border collie bitch and up until the last few weeks she has always wolfed her food down as soon as I put it out.She never leaves any in the bowl.
The last few weeks she doest run to her bowl as soon as I put it out and she has been leaving it all day without eating any of it.
She has also been covering her bowl with toys or letters and newspapers as if trying to hide it!
I know a lot of dogs leave their food and eat it when they feel like it, but Im really worried about her coz its so out of character.
Anybody any suggestions? Shes due for a check up and booster at the vets soon but just wondered if anybody else had experienced anything similar?
Going off her food this suddenly warrants a trip to the vets I think- or it would if she was mine.
Keep a careful note of other changes, such as things like her toilet habit, too so you can tell the vet about it.

Being off their food is often a sign of illness. Unless there is something new going on a home that may have upset her? This has been going on for a while so personally I would bring forward that vets appointment :thumbsup: just to be on the safe side.
I want to take her sooner but I they dont have any appointments sooner than the one I have. I really am worried but dont think I can take her in as its not an emergency or do you think they would see her anyway if I took her in?
This is a judgment call- is she happy in herself and still doing everything else OK? Or is she losing weight hand over fist and starting to lose condition?
If the former, take a non-emergency appointment, if the latter, tell them it's important and get her in Monday or Tuesday.

If you phone the vet and tell them you are very worried about her and explain the situation most vets would squeeze her in.
She is absolutely normal in every other way and acting her usual energetic and crazy self. I think I will ring them again anyway coz its not like her. Just thought the hiding of the food was very unusaul behaviuor

Has she got access to the garden unsupervised? could she be getting fed by someone else?

is she due for a season, my two girls go off their food for about a week or so before it arrives, but are otherwise fine.
However we did go and get them checked out by the vet as we were worried etc. good luck with whatever it is
make sure she is having water, test her to make sure by pinching the skin on her shoulders if it is slow to go down do not hesitate to take her to the vet
