View Full Version : What's the best dj/band you've ever seen live?
funkymiss 21-09-2006, 19:29 In the last year couple of years I've been lucky enough to have seen so many dj's and bands and there have been so many of those tingly, hair standing up on the back of your neck times! :) :wow:
What's the best experience you've had at a gig/night and what was so good about it?
funkymiss 22-09-2006, 02:12 Pwease tell me!
Well seeing as it's late... Mine was seeing Prodigy at creamfields this year - particularly when they did Breathe - it was completely insane! I've never seen anyone get a crowd so worked up! Then when they finished, 'love is in the air' randomly started playing and everyone around us made a conga away from the stage. Happy days!
Craig7777 22-09-2006, 02:18 favourite Band gig = Beautiful South at city hall
Craig7777 22-09-2006, 02:20 Because it was amazing there were people of all age groups from about 10 up to about 90
God i sound boring:(
funkymiss 22-09-2006, 02:28 That's not boring :)
I think on saturday you will change your mind though
Craig7777 22-09-2006, 02:40 Oh dam i forgot about valve
I went last year
it was great but think i drank too much so i carn't rememeber :(
Not gonna happen this time though:)
funkymiss 22-09-2006, 02:42 I drank too much too. This time will be different though!
Wait a sec you weren't that really wasted bloke who got up on the stage and just stood there??

Could have been :hihi: :hihi:
Nah i was bouncing around allnight happy as larry
Just couldn't remember alot in the morning
NEKRO138 22-09-2006, 08:40 Best gig I ever went to was Bloodhound Gang. Unfortunately, they've had to tone down their stage show a lot because they couldn't get insured anymore.
Seeing Zero7 perform Somersault in Manchester earlier this year was just the most perfect moment.
:)
Was at the Smashing Pumpkins last ever UK gig, and that was a special one. If you can imagine your favourite band playing all of their greatest hits from their entire career in one evening, then you can imagine how much I enjoyed that night.
Have seen far too many good acts to name over the last couple of years- Pendulum, Mampi Swift, Evil Nine, London Electricity, erm...probably loads more I can't remember but at the time I bet they were all great.
Aphex Twin at the essential weekender in 97, Finsbury Park, London.
Simply the best musician of our time.
Agent Gypo 22-09-2006, 09:32 Aphex Twin at the essential weekender in 97, Finsbury Park, London.

I need to see him again. I saw him at Leeds festival a few years ago and he was rubbish. Was gutted, as he was the only reason I went to the festival.
Squarepusher at Leadmill a few years ago was probably the best live set I've seen.
My best gig had to be earlier this year when i travelled to Manchester to see Bon Jovi and they had Nickleback supporting them it was fantastic!
funkymiss 22-09-2006, 10:11 Thanks everyone :) Macca I knew that would be yours. Do you know they are at Plug in October? Hoba London Elektricity are a firm fave of mine too - live D&B  I'd love to see evil nine some time.
Keep em coming
Either Slayer @ London Astoria on God Hates Us All tour (or was it the year after the album:suspect:) or Type O Negative in Manchester 2003. Great gig and spent an hour with the band beforehand.
Talking mortgage interest rates with a famous band (in their field). Can anyone beat a more boring conversation?:D
Spaulding 22-09-2006, 10:21 i bloody enjoyed the Darkness at the arena in dec 04...put on a great show...went this year also..but they were pretty crap this time
I loved oasis last june in manchester..but they were boring in sheff this year
Meat loafs always a great show
Thanks everyone :) Macca I knew that would be yours. Do you know they are at Plug in October?
Am I that predictable?! It really was a special moment for me, not least because of the company :)
Yeah, I'm already going to something that night though, gutted!

Darkness were really good at (i think) Sheffield Union before they got famous. Cant stand them now:gag: :gag: :gag:

London elektricity always do a good show. I saw Underworld in London in the late nineties that was amazing for all sorts of different reasons. Born slippy is the probably the best stadia dance track when one is munted. Also orbital, aphex twin, squarepusher as mentioned.
Oh i forgot I saw radiohead and they are the buisness live. Kid A makes total sense live, funnily.
Pumpkins are back in the studio, so watch this space.:D
funkymiss 22-09-2006, 12:18 Bet it was amazing seeing underworld in the 90s... what were the reasons that made it so good?!
Just randomly remembered another evening that is probably in my top ten nights out of all time.I saw Streetlight Manifesto at zero one friday evening, and straight after that stayed in the club for Medicine 8 and Ben Sims. Fantastic ska punk followed by some of the finest techno I've heard.
Brilliant.
I know i'm old when i tell you that the best gig iv'e been to.(not many)
Was Micheal Jackson at Wembley 1989..on his bad tour.
That was before all the stuff about him kicked off...He was well supported by the then well known Kim Wilde.(kids in america).Daughter of Marty wilde.!
Think she does some kind of herbal advert on tv now..as well as a gardening thing.!!
Also thought Boy in a Dolphin where really good the last i saw them play..which was ages ago now.!!
jt
DelMonte 22-09-2006, 13:51 For me band wise it would probably be The Beastie Boys on their Ill Communication Tour in 1995 closely followed by Ian Brown in Manchester last December...hearing those Roses tracks and all his own classics was phenominal!:)
DJ wise, RJD2 (if you've ever heard of him!!) was incredible in Hackney a couple of years back..he had four turntables, samplers, keyboards, and racks of other equipment that gave him a full band sound :o he even sold his tshirts from the stage at the end!! :hihi:
The X-Ecutioners last October in Leeds were mint too...they finished with a rock set incorporating Led Zep and the rest of the classics...way out!
I saw a band at the leadmill the other week called Broken Social Scene - never heard of them before i went to the gig and was blown away, a very memorable gig!
Saw 'The Stones' live in Hyde Park in the late '60s- absolutely awesome.
Saw them again at Don Valley 2006- still awesome, few more wrinkles but still the coolest band on the planet.
The Stones, the soundtrack to my life.:)
miniminch 22-09-2006, 14:20 Bet it was amazing seeing underworld in the 90s... what were the reasons that made it so good?!amazing songs, visuals, chilled happy pilled people, and the rush of it all. Listen to Everything, everything, and that is a flavour of it. I thought i was in heaven.
Chic at Sonàr this year. Awe-inspiring. As an encore they did "Good Times", and halfway through, Nile Rodgers broke into the rap from Rapper's Delight, then Rahzel came on and started beatboxing over the top. I cried with happiness.
Tortured Soul were equally awe-inspiring at 'It Doesn't Really Matter' last Bonfire Night - wicked NY house/garage played live. Probably the most impressed by sheer musicianship I've ever been.
DelMonte 22-09-2006, 14:35 Chic at Sonàr this year. Awe-inspiring.
did you manage to catch Fat Freddies Drop at Sonar owd lad?
My spy over there said it was the shizzle :)
shells2909 22-09-2006, 14:42 I saw the Manics a few years ago at the arena - amaaaazing!! Catatonia supported too. James Dean Bradfields voice was fantastic. He's at the Leadmill in a couple of weeks, got my tickets and cant wait to hear him live again!

You should have seen them back in 1991 / 92 - words can't express how brilliant they were then!
They're a pale shadow of themselves without Richey.

shells2909 22-09-2006, 14:50 To be honest i only went with my brother to see them cos he had a ticket, i wasnt really that bothered bout them, i was sooooo impressed tho and have been really into them ever since.
Gotta be seeing my fave band Red Hot Chili Peppers at Don Valley this year, they were great!
Funkymiss ~ i've seen prodigy twice (for free ;) ) and they are really good aren't they! I've never been the biggest fan but they are very good live.
Kthebean 22-09-2006, 20:10 Faithless at Glastonbury.
Nuff said really.
funkymiss 22-09-2006, 21:27 Very jealous of lots of these mainly Beastie Boys and... you Rooty! - I didn't get to go to that cos I was working, bet it was subliminal. kathy I have to agree with you, I saw Faithless last year and spent the whole time i awe!
Rooty I know what you mean, I remember being young enough to be a bit scared of the firestarter video and there I was in August!! Took on a whole new meaning in that field :)
Lambo245 22-09-2006, 22:13 Bands
The Jam in 81 ( I think) at Roxys, 2 nights and one sound check
9 below zero at the Lyceum 82( I think agian, to many beers)
DJ
How hard is it to play a record
I've seen loads of bands etc over the past few years.
I much prefer the City Hall as a venue over the Arena, it's more intimate isn't it?
Gotta say though one of the very best performances was by Lionel Richie at the Arena, he really is a good showman. Rod Stewart was pretty good too.
Elton John was soooo boring (yawn) and the Beautiful South (who i'd been really looking forward to seeing) distinctly average :(
Seen Kylie a few times and she puts on an excellent show fab choreography. Not got tickets for the next one though. All the others i've seen have been ok, but not outstanding.
Got a few more tickets booked for the next few months. Looking forward to seeing Richard Hawley at the City Hall and Russell Watson too.
_Kirsty_ 23-09-2006, 16:10 Best band= green day
okka north 24-09-2006, 13:14 Guns 'n' Roses in Melbourne many years ago. It was fantastic.
