Coming through Sheffield today (on way bck to Derby) I thought I would check out the Hiram Wild factory shop on Herries Road. Not been before, but their general cutlery is very good so I thought I would pop in.
Anyway the whole factory is empty. Have they closed down completely, moved or been taken over?
hiram wilds is now shut down....due to bad management and the idiots running it............once was a great factory.......people and good cutlery.....its a shame really......long live the name

couldn`t agree more with you i worked there for a couple of years in the mid 80`s my dad worked there 25++ years until he retired 8 years ago,
My Dad worked there a number of years (10+) untill just before its first closure around May / June 05. It did reopen in July 05 I think, lasted for about 9 months in the same building, but operating using a different company name. My Dad went back part time to help set the machines up, the machines were that old and had there little querks that only he knew how to do it. In the end they only churned out cuttlery that was cheap junk, and the chineese do that better.
It's such a shame as they were the only firm I knew of that produced Sheffield 18/0 Stainless steel items in vast volumes. They were prominent supplies to the good old NHS and local authorities. However, it's probably a victim of globalisation and so difficult to compete against all the imported stuff! Does anyone remember these other firms, H & M and Housleys?
Does anyone know have Hiram Wild (later J & C Products) closed forever or have they just moved possibly to 9, Cupola?
Yeah, I remember Housleys, Harris Miller and many others like them, I used to work for a transport co that did deliveries for most of the Sheffield cutlery, tool, scissor and knife trades, Wilds included
