Sorry if this post doesn't quite fit the catagory, but I didn't fancy posting this in the general section!

Me and Hubby are currently trying for a baby but I'm having problems with my cycles since coming off the pill in June. I know it's common for it it take a while to get back to normal and I know it can take ages to actually get pregnant but it's really getting me down and I'm sure the more I worry the worse it gets!
I'm currently on day 54 of my second cycle since June and I'm in a constant state of PMT! My skin (as mentioned in another post ) is terrible, with eczema, not just spots, my hair is falling out and I'm just generally fed up.
The GP isn't interested unless I've been trying for over 10 months and so I'm wondering about trying some kind of alternative therapy to get myself back on track.
I've never tried it before so I'm trying to find out what would be best for me, maybe something like acupuncture or reflexology?
Has anyone had these treatments and would you recommend them?

Thanks for listening to my moaning!!;)

Accupuncture. very good at regulating the menstrual cycle for many women.

June isn't THAT long ago to have come off the pill - 2 and a half months? Also, sudden changes in body weight can screw things up - if you've recently lost weight quickly, or are doing a lot of excercise, then again you can expect your periods to go doo-lally for a while.

How old are you? The period of time that your GP will wait before referring you on to a secialist is determined by your age.

Thanks Joe
I know it hasn't been long but my irregular cycles were one of the reasons I went on the pill in the first place.
I think I'm just after more of a pick-me-up than anything and if it helps to regulate my cycles in the process then that's an added bonus.
I'm only 26 by the way and no, there's been no weight loss or gain recently to make things go haywire.

sorry to say, but after coming off the pill you should expect it to take at least 6 months before your cycle will be anything like it used to be - even once you've started menstruating again it doesn't mean you're ovulating, it takes time to get going again. Obvious things like eating healthily, getting a moderate amount of exercise (not too much - that'll make your cycle irregular anyway), drinking loads of water, keeping stress to a minimum...if i were you i'd be tempted to give reflexology a try. not because i necessarily believe it'd help, but at least it feels pleasant and helps you relax. whatever you do, don't start taking any kind of chinese remedy, herbal medicine or essential oils unless your doctor or a medical specialist prescribes them - not enough is known about how the contents of some of these things can affect your cycle. the control of hormone levels is incredibly complex, there is no quick fix - you need to let your system sort itself out.

A friend of mine has been going through the exact same but it's two years since she came off the pill and she's only just gone to 4 - 6 week cycles.
June isn't so far away and your body has to readjust.
Then, from that point it would easily take a year to conceive. please don't think you need to worry just yet - you really don't, I've been there!

Not quite the same thing, but I had period problems which were helped for a while by a really good herbalist at Sheffield Natural Health Centre, called Jeanette I think, It was a while ago, so I dont know if she is still there.

If irregular periods were the reason you went on the pill in the first place, I suppose that now you're returning to what may be 'normal' for you :(

The best advice I could give is to use this time to make sure you and your partner are in the best possible state to get pregnant. You both should be eating a healthy well-balanced diet with plenty of fruit and veg (he needs to make sure he has enough Zinc in his diet). Also, if either/both of you smoke or drink more than 3-4 units of alchohol per week you should be cutting down or stopping altogether.

Plan and do something special as a 'couple' that you probably won't get chance to do once you have little one(s) around. It will give you something else to focus on and look forward to.

Try regular facials to help your skin and that should help you feel a bit better too  Good luck.

Just wanted to post a little update on this topic.
I visited a herbalist just over a week ago now and the kind lady in the shop suggested I try Agnus Castus to help my little problem.
My skin is clearing up, my eczema has gone completely and I feel 10 times better. No PMT anymore and I even had cramps last night which may mean that my 60+ day cycle is finally coming to an end!

I know some people are wary of herbal remedies and maybe this could be a placebo effect, but I'm a happy bunny once more :D

Agnus Castus is good stuff - there are a few other similar herbal remedies that are effective, but as you've found they need the help of aherbalist to get the right ones at the right time.

Most of these remedies go back hundreds of years and the chemicals involved are quite potent!

I was going to recommend agnus castus but you got there first! I used it a couple of years ago to regulate my fairly irregular cycle, and it did work. In fact, once I stopped using it, my cycles became regular and have been ever since, before and after being pregnant.
