Lucky! No, only jesting, was a cracking goal! He definitely intended to do it. I thought it'd be ages before I saw a better goal than Drogba's on Sunday, lasted until tonight though, bring on the weekend!

The third of his career.

What a top moment. As he hit it I looked to see where Harper was and thought "Oh, he'll save that" only to see him trip like a girl.

Top stuff - especially screaming "Shoot!" every time Xabi got the ball afterwards :)

It only went in because of Harpers gaffe. If he doesnt slip, he saves comfortably, making Alonso look silly.
Nice to see some excitement finally found its way to Anfield though......

You making the same point as me there Gud?

Just because Xabi's done it three times now, and Becks has only managed it the once.... ;)

Hardly exciting last night, though I wish I'd seen Bellers fight with McDermott and Carr in the tunnel afterwards!!

You could, by getting a tough tackler in there.
Alonso wouldnt be required.

That you tube video is a disgrace.

The first goal was an open goal, required no clean strike at all, only direction. The majority of Sunday league players could score from the half way line without a keeper - it's simple, particularly if the ball it allowed to bounce about 20 times before reaching.

The second one - far better strike of the ball but the goalkeeper made a fool of himself.

Becks goal is still the pick for me!

Rubbish. give me Scholes anyday. He can pass as well as Alonso, and offers FAR more going forward.

I would agree if the day had been 5 years ago........ the problem is scholes is now 32 touching 33 and will retire with in maybe next 2 seasons

alonso on the other hand has a good 8 years left running in him, if not more.

I'd prefer alonso as it stands

I would say so yes,

How fletcher and o'shea make it in the manure squad i'l never know. The only thing they have going for them is that they have come from the youth set up.

Sissoko is a great tackler and distributer of the ball.
Pennant is a great crosser, typical winger
Alonso great all rounder

Our defence was second only to Chelsea last season. Granted, problems so far this season, but we have had injuries to Carragher and Riise. Confident we'll be back to form once things settle. And Agger is shaping up to be another Rafa gem!

I concede midfield, until we secure Hargreaves.

Hargreaves, Carrick and Scholes flanked by giggs and Ronaldo.
Yes Sir.

Your defence only conceded so few last year because you had 7 men behind the ball. This season, you are talking a few more risks, with disastrous results.

Rivarly aside, I completely disagree with this statement :)

Xabi Alonso is one of the finest passers you will ever see - have you forgotten that Fergie was "fuming" when we snapped up a player he'd been chasing for two years, before he had time to act?

I've never seen Scholes play 50 yard defence splitters blind*, but I see Alonso doing this regularly. He really is a great passer of the ball.

*Sunderland away last season is a perfect example - two phenomenal balls to set up both goals.

Robbie, wait while you see some more of him.

I've been to three of our games this season (he's played in each), and caught the rest on telly.

He really is a good prospect. He's sharp mentally, quick, physical and technically sound in the tackle. He shows good organisation skills, and he's got a fair old shot on him. Plus he's only 21.

If he continues to improve at the rate he has so far, he will easily reach Hyppia's (past) standards.

Like i say, he has impressed me in parts, but i just dont think he is going to ever be that "rock" that Hyppia has been for many a year.

Fair play - he does have more freedom, but that's symptomatic of his greater pace, and the more expansive style Benitez is trying to apply to the team.

I'll certainly enjoy seeing if I get proved right though :)
