View Full Version : Transformers - movie due 2006
Oh lordy !
Dreamworks are going to make a live action movie of Transformers with release date of Summer 2006

Might see it but the bit that excite me in the article is that Spielberg is doing a film remake of HG Wells' sci-fi classic War of the Worlds in co-operation with actor Tom Cruise. Could be extremely good or extremely bad. Fingers crossed
Remake of War of the Worlds?! Hopefully it'll be decent given that the 1953 version had almost no connection to the book apart from that it had Martians in it who died from catching cold :loopy:
As for the Transformers one... Meh, when will they learn that live action movies based on cartoons are almost NEVER any good?!
Whats happening. We've got Spiderman,Thunderbirds,Captain Scarlet on its way and now Transformers....Have the film makers run out of ideas so havin to resort to bringing out revamped old stuff......Starsky and Hutch burst's back now theres talk of Knight rider and the Dukes of Hazzard coming to the big screen.
Lickable 26-07-2004, 11:37 Mad Max 4 is coming too :)

Hey there's nowt wrong with retro style remakes if they're done well.
Trouble is, Hollywood has its way of bastardising the true classics :(
Greenback 28-07-2004, 15:11 The Starsky and Hutch remake is superb! And if you were to re-examine programmes like Knight Rider, the Dukes of Hazzard and Thunderbirds today, I bet you'd be less forthcoming in proclaiming their 'true classic' status...
:)
Looking forward to the Transformers movie; was a big fan when I was a kid.
Will the characters be the original generation 1 Transformers or the IMO rubbish Generation 2?

If they're hoping to aim this one at the retro market, then they'd be best advised to go back to the originals.
IMO they'll have a hard job of topping the animated movie, which featured the voices of Eric Idle, Leonard Nimoy and Orson Welles (in his last ever role). The film also had some of the greatest quotes in living memory!

I think the film / toymakers realised that the people who watched the programmes as kids but couldn't afford the toys can now (as adults) go and buy all the models! I do!
I've picked up some right Transformer bargains, from Argos, Atkinsons and Woolworths on the Moor, and Toys R us at Meadowhall!
It's 1987 all over again!
Anyone remember the comic book series, with the 1986 story Target 2006? The one with Galvatron? I'd love to see that remade as a movie!

I bought it for 3 quid on VHS from Music Zone down the Moor a couple of months back :)
If you pop down they might have some copies left.
Ghosthunter 06-08-2004, 17:29 Hope the remake of Wars of the Worlds is based in the same times as the book. Love the book.

robirisc 24-08-2004, 22:48 hi, i've been following this transformers news for a while, Robert Zemeriks (don't think thats how you spell it!) has been linked with directing for dreamworks, he was the one who did back to the future they are looking at producing it using a new rotoscoping process.
