Who are you?
I always thought you were ‘the dog’
You guard, you bark, get kicked when bad.
Stay in the yard, chained to a log.
You don’t have feelings, you don’t get sad.
You were always just ‘that old dog’
We’d replace you when you got too old.
You’d stay out in rain and fog
It didn’t matter ‘dogs don’t get cold’.
Now I know you’re more than ‘the dog’
You’re loyal and loving, a wonderful friend.
Come in, lie down my gift from God
We’ll be together to the very end.
What made me think that you were nothing?
I didn’t know, never understood how
You needed care, you needed loving,
Dogs do have feelings, they need us now.
You’re far far far more than nothing.
I always thought you were ‘the dog’
You guard, you bark, get kicked when bad.
Stay in the yard, chained to a log.
You don’t have feelings, you don’t get sad.
You were always just ‘that old dog’
