We go through Whitely Woods and Ecclesall Woods alot with our little one Hels 16-09-2006, 23:06 We live fairly close to Rother Valley and will be going there Sunday afternoon. It's flat enough with wide paths to make walking with baby in the pushchair easy enough while also allowing our dog to have a good run. There's also 'playdales' adventure playground for when baby is a wee bit bigger. Obviously Rother Valley means toddlers will need to be well supervised near the water but there's lots of wide open grassed areas too. Gemima 18-09-2006, 14:25 thanks for your replies. I am near Dinnington, have been to Rother Valley a few times, but was looking for somewhere a little quieter. Having three dogs is a bit traumatic when there are lots of kids and other dogs around and I do have a car so can travel! beckelina 18-09-2006, 14:35 I would say Glen Howe Park in Wharncliffe Side but it is a bit of a way from you! It's a lovely old wooded park with paths that are a bit steep but good for all-terrains. There is also a play park next to the car park. Look on multimap/google maps for damasel lane, wharncliffe side. tom3t0 18-09-2006, 14:37 to the local park stick em on swings samc 18-09-2006, 14:59 to the local park stick em on swings The dogs or the kids ? tom3t0 18-09-2006, 15:25 if theres 4 swings stick em all in okka north 18-09-2006, 15:30 Rother valley is great. I used to take the pram and let my son walk until he got tired and then pushed him a bit. My childminder also takes her dog and some little ones she looks after, there all the time, they love it. Gemima 18-09-2006, 21:14 if theres 4 swings stick em all in made me chuckle but they scared of heights! Hels 18-09-2006, 22:01 We've recently moved to Todwick so if you do find somewhere nice to walk with baby/dog let me know. Rother's great, but can get busy weekends especially. We were there Sunday with a picnic and had a fab time. I only had 3 to look after though - 1 babe, 1 dog and 1 hubby :hihi: There's supposed to be a really nice walk somewhere in Kiveton where the pit used to be? Not been up there yet but i'll give it a try and let you know what it's like. Gemima 19-09-2006, 12:40 cheers will do Hels :) Yellowrose 21-09-2006, 22:09 I would say Glen Howe Park in Wharncliffe Side but it is a bit of a way from you! Look on multimap/google maps for damasel lane, wharncliffe side. Must try and find this as I think its near where we are moving to. Is it anywhere near Wadsley/Middlewood? Yellowrose 21-09-2006, 22:16 Had difficulty with finding a map showing where the access is. Can you help please Beckelina? beckelina 22-09-2006, 09:32 Glen Howe Park is in Wharncliffe Side (on the main road from Middlewood) - you can get to it using the 57 or 58 bus or the 201 Rural Links also I think. By car if you stay on the main road from Middlewood, go through Oughtibridge and Wharncliffe Side is another couple of miles further on. There is a signpost on the main road - you take a left turn up the hill (I think it is called Green Lane) and follow the road it is signposted. There is a play park next to the car park, and woods/streams/fields further up. It has a really interesting history as a community park and was used in Victorian times for fresh air visits for the children from the workhouses and ragged schools in sheffield inner cities. They used to catch the train to Oughtibridge and then walk (barefoot) to the Park, have tea and bread and play football in the top field. For better directions (sorry but I can't work links!) do a google map for postcode S35 0DW or map ref SK 295 942! Enjoy! |
