View Full Version : Bizarre news reporting
why is it on any news report they have a shot of the interviewee
walking, usually down a path before the interview.
why dont they save the tape and just get down to it..
do we really need to know they can walk first..
Jabberwocky 16-09-2006, 00:23 And if its rained a lot they always have some idiot with a mic standing waist deep in a flood.
bigflesh 16-09-2006, 00:46 A Leeds tornado.... hmmmm, OK. Whatever. A freak storm yes, a tornado, erm nope. Sprinkle in a bit of local media "we don't have a better story polyfilla" and lets play on the Greenhouse gas issue. I shall say no more for fear of understanable moderation.

Why does it particularly bother you? Why is that people can be arsed to come on the internet at this time of night to make such a comment? Probably for the same reason that I can be bothered to even reply. Which reminds me of a programme I once saw where it started off with a man walking down a path, probably before an interview.........
Unbelievable.
56cheffy 16-09-2006, 06:20 Why do they have 2 people reading the same report...one says a few lines then it's the other ones turn....and when they finish a report from one of their outside report it goes something like this this.
Reporter...."Natasha, back to you in the studio"
Natasha...."Thank you Polly"....and then the OTHER bloke starts on the next item..What's that all about?
And
Natasha..."Let's have a look at the time.....it's just coming up to quarter past six".....more like Playschool...
Next it will be "Let's have a look through the round window and see where George is today".:hihi:...Let's hope they don't catch him 'getting it on' with Polly!....Second thoughts, let's hope they do...

The other classic local news shot is the bereaved relatives sadly looking through a photo album and pointing out their late loved one to each other.
Jabberwocky 16-09-2006, 10:57 The teddy bear or the doll in a pile of rubble...
Jamie2006 16-09-2006, 11:49 The movement and variety means it keeps your attention - primitive human behaviour - if something moves you instinctivly look at it....perfectly natural, self preservation behaviour, so if there is movement and variety then you attention will grabbed whether you like it or not. If you're in a pub and there is a TV on, not matter what is on the screen you tend to look at it, as you do if something moves and you only see it from the corner of your eye. The "on location" bit is to show "we are the most up to date, on the ball news channel" which is why they have people on location even when there is nothing to report. Mixing things up gives people something new to look at.....all of this is prevent you from changing channels, so that you get familiar and comfortable with that channel's format and personalities so that you tend to go back for more...and so on .....
"So when the plane crashed in your garden, smashing your greenhouse and squashing your marrow, how did you feel?"

'I was devastated. It was horrendous. Now I need closure'.

I was in absolute agony! :hihi:

This has made me laugh! Exactly a year ago I had to go to London to be interviewed for Channel 4 news. I'd worked in media in the past, so knew all the tricks and tics, but I still had difficulty keeping a straight face, doing all the shots - yes indeed, walking down a path! Sitting on a park bench looking up at the trees! Flicking through a magazine, putting it down, looking wistful! It was cringey!
ITN has a fish tank about 40 feet long. And Trevor MacDonald has a startlingly big pot belly, and is very short. :)

Awards purdyamos an Oscar ....
Why do both BBC and ITV on their late night news have their various “political or other editors” standing outside the Home Office or every other government office, just to say a few words about what went on there during the day?
