Could anyone tell me if they have heard anything about the possible link to Alzheimers from using aluminium for food processing cooking and storage.

Its been long standing theory, and I have heard of it, just cant remember where (excuse the pun)

However this authority claims its not linked

Do a search I am sure there will be lots of articles

Yet another urban myth, I'm afraid. I heard a long radio segment about this very topic yesterday. Too much aluminium in the water can cause all sorts of health problems, it seems, but there's no direct link with Alzheimers

I heard this many years ago and promptly threw out all my aluminium pans

A link is still to be proved or disproved.

Some chelation studies (where drugs are taken to remove metals from the body) have shown a small improvement in some patients, but not all. SImilarly, some studies have found Aluminium associated with AD damaged brain tissue, and others haven't. Jury's still out, I guess.

The symptoms of Alzheimers are quite similar to those of ALuminiun poisoning, however, and some work has been done quite recently (http://www.lipidworld.com/content/3/1/13) that seems to indicate that Aluminimum does change the make up of brain lipids. The resultant 'profiles' of lipids in brains from Alzheimer patients and those from aluminimum treted animals is very similar.

I also believe that the Aluminium industry has funded quite a lot of research in Alzheimer's Disease to try and get to the bottom of things. Whether this is good or bad...who knows....

I don't think it's right, like the link between MMR jabs and autism, I mean, as some of you may know from my very first post on here way back last September, I suffer from a mild form of autism called Asperger's syndrome, and I NEVER recieved the MMR jab when I was little (it wasn't really known about in the mid-late 1970s).

Hi Rich,

I appreciate the MMR / Autism link isn't totally clear, but even if it were proven MMR isn't the only cause of Autism. There i probably a genetic element, as well as some environmental and development elements as well.

In general terms, MMR MAY be a contributing factor to Autism Spectrum conditions, but not the ONLY contributing factor.

I took my time over the decision of the MMr vaccine.

My first child was 20 months when he had it. The only reason he had it was because the decision was made for me.

He had chicken pox and was doing fine until one afternoon he became very red and hot then within 10 minutes looked as if he had been attacked by a swarm of bees, face and body swollen with hives. It looked awful! i took him to the childrens hospital who saw him straight away.

I was told then that he had a reaction the the chicken pox that resulted in Urticaria. My husband has Urticaria (nettle rash) and I have/had Uticaria pigmentosa (dark patches of pigment on skin with nettle rash). Apparently bad luck as far as my children go with both parents having this.

They advised me that it would be a good idea that he had the MMR as until he was older and his immune system had developed he would react to any illness like this.

he had the MMR after that and has been fine.
My youngest had hers at 20 months too. I waited until she was past the 18 months stage as autism becomes apparent at around 18 months (when you have the MMR)

Both have been fine.

Never touched MMR vaccine had both my kids vaccinated singly.......I wasn't prepared to take the risk however small, not when there was an alternative available.

Actually there was a documented screw up in Camelford, Cornwall, about 16 years or so ago where the water authority poured aluminium sulphate (or some other aluminium based compound) directly into the water supply and the result was a massive problem with people suffering acute brain damage to a critical part of the brain linked to memory, etc...

So, there is a link... but to be honest... it's such a blinding obvious... "too much of anything" type scenario...
