A (very) distant relative of my cousin had the surname BENTLEY (first name not known). BENTLEY was out with his pony and trap, somewhere in the Sheffield area (date not known). The pony and trap arrived home without the owner and when a search was started, he was found kicked to death and robbed. I do not know if the assailants were caught.

No not yet. The info to date is so vague it would be the proverbial needle in a haystack. If I could pin down a rough date/location it would make things a lot easier. I've had a look in some of the local history books (Crime In Sheffield etc ) but there is no references at all to the murder
