View Full Version : Neighbour's dogs barking all day e/day help
beemerchez 14-09-2006, 16:44 hi
is there anything i can do. over the back garden from me
they own 2 dogs a gsd and a very young crossbreed looks like
a terrier.... they have just recently aquired..
3 small kids that torment them cruel.
i have put up with this noise years, from the gsd.
so i'm not just whinging here
its not just a bark now and again
the dogs constantly bark and yap from early morning till late
at night all day long.everyday....
my mum is disabled and lives in the back bedroom where
all this summer she hasant been able to open her window the noise
is terrible, and we have just had enough.
its a good job i am not a sun lover as there is no way i could sit
in my own garden.
there neighbours must be deaf or really scared of the family.
i have been round once a couple of years ago. as i was working 4am to 11am
so had a hour in the afternoon, (no chance)
and confronted them.seems they have forgot...
i have told my next door neighbour about it,since its her daughter
and partner who i'm on about, but they just say "they switch off"
well they would wouldn't they....
we have lived her 11yrs. buying the house, i dont think its fair
we have to put up with this day in day out...
i dont want the dogs taken off them, by all means ..
i have a rescue dog myself and do alot for dog rescues,
so its not like i dont like dogs.in fact i love all dogs..
but these 2 are driving us insane the constant barking and yapping..
is there anything we can do.any advice welcome..
sorry for the long thread..
BobbyBunny 14-09-2006, 17:32 There isn't such a thing as a bad dog, its the owners that are to blame. Our next door neighbours is my other halfs aunty and uncle, and their dog annoys the heck out of me. I go round there sometimes, scream and shout and tell them if they don't do something about it I'm reporting them, but they don't do a thing. Seeing as we have as many dogs as we do, we just go round to their house, take their dog and bring him on our yard. The company of our dogs shuts him up, plus out GSD is really grouchy at times, and she does go for him if he starts. We keep our kitchen door open at all times (all night aswell through the summer) because with our dogs, no one would get in the house. The dogs come and go on the garden and in the kitchen/conservatory if its raining.
Obviously you can't do this with your neighbours dogs. I'd try talking with them one last time, and if it doesn't work either report them to the council (our local area where we live has a noise pollution officer) of report them to the RSPCA for being cruel to their dogs.
beemerchez 14-09-2006, 18:05 thanks bobbybunny.
i know the dogs are well fed/watered,
i dont think they are cruel to them.? but leaving them out all day everyday
barking and yapping, in ALL weathers is this cruel.? proberbly not,
you would think the dogs would give up but no.
just us suffering.day in day out..
i dont want anyone taking the dogs off them by all means,
the rescues are full enough..
i have never heard them tell the dogs to be quite.
but they dont tell there kids either.
no other dogs round here barks. but i think they must think
no one will hear them anyway so why bother..lol
i have a very mardy doggie..lol
so i guess they must have 2 very yappy noisey dogs.
the owners are mouthy and very loud too. ;o(
they will prob: just tell me to you know what. **********
The dogs may bed well fed/watered, but they are not receiving human company enough for them to be going off like this and being left out all day everday is neglect.
A happy dog doesn't bark constantly, a bored or stressed dog barks constantly. Don't get me wrong, one of mine barks a lot but not constantly because she receives enough attention.
I suggest you go and speak to them again and ask them to either buy a citronella spray collar (humane way of distracting a dog from barking) or muzzle the dogs while they cannot be with them - you can get 'safety muzzles' that stop dogs from barking, chewing furniture etc.
If they tell you to 'you know what', then I would go to the council. They will give the owners chance to rectify the problem and if they don't, perhaps it would be better for the dogs in the long run to go to a home where they receive enough attention.
beemerchez 14-09-2006, 18:50 thanks for the reply lotti
we are at the end of out tether now.
so something has to be done.
i know they are not people who will take note and understand
to be honest. i think thats why no ones complained to them before.
there scared of what might happen.
so there getting away with it.
i wonder though. are they deaf.? as surley it gets on there nerves too
i think there the type that just turns there music louder
so they cant hear. ;o(
Are you sure they're even in?
Perhaps they're out all day?
Perhaps you could just tell them of some products that can keep the dogs entertained - such as kongs etc. Of course they may still not listen but if you give them the chance then you won't feel so guilty if these poor dogs do get removed from them.
I don't like taking anyone's pets away but thinking about what is best for the dogs, they seem bored and stressed from what you say. They deserve more than that.
Classic Rock 14-09-2006, 19:13 There's a department within the council devoted to dog barking. Try them for advice?
luv_milk 14-09-2006, 19:28 i moved into my terraced house with my young son just before xmas. I have right of way through my neighbour's yard into my my yard, our gardens are separated by a (pretty knackered) fence.
she has 2 dogs that bark at ANYTHING. i'm talking like, if i go in my kitchen and take something out of the cupboard, the dogs bark. if i turn the kitchen taps on to wash up, the dogs bark. if i open my door, the dogs bark. i can't even go in my garden to hang the washing out without making them bark.
she doesn't seem to walk them, and they use their garden/yard as the dog's loo. although i've never seen dog poo in the garden, i get a good whiff of pee as i walk through and during the summer it got unpleasant ocasionally.
she seems to keep them confined to her kitchen (at the back of the house), so EVERY time i have to leave my house the dogs go NUTS. the people who had the house before me used the rear door as the main door, so the dogs MUST be used to people coming and going. it's even worse if you happen to go out when she's got the dogs in the garden for their 'toilet break': she has to take them out on leads in an enclosed garden because they're barking and snarling and jumping up on my gate! she definately doesn't let them out on their own for any form of exercise.
i just don't get it. i love animals, but why on earth would you have 2 dogs if you don't want to walk them or give them attention. she's forever yelling at the top of her voice at the dogs to shut up, so it obviously bothers her too.
to make matters worse, her adult son lives with her and they argue (shouting, slamming doors etc) EVERY DAY at all hours.
any ideas how to handle the situation? it's really starting to get me down
beemerchez 14-09-2006, 20:04 crickey you worse than me...
my dog doesan't bark. i think shes fed up of hearing them as well
she just lets them get on with it.lol
the owners are in as you hear the kids screaming and shouting
there only youngsters maybe 4/5 yrs old.
and mother doing the same.
dont get me wrong i dont mind kids playing, but all they do is scream and shout
i think this starts the dogs off, then then never stop.
we had a half hour break from it tonight, ;o)
i thought i'd gone deaf...
(thanks classicrock.)

Beemerchez. I hope everything turns out fine and stuff. I'm not sure if there is a noise more annoying than a barking dog, except perhaps a screaming brat, or maybe a car alarm. By the way, I love the way you write. It's sorta John Cooper Clarke, but better!

thanks blip.
it is annoying my mum hears it the worse.:( shes in the back bedroon
that backs onto there garden,
other than that i could record them one day.
then when there in bed play it back full volume
then they know what wer'e going through.
bet they shout over 'shut them dogs and kids up':hihi:
John Cooper Clarke. lol i feel more like Victor Meldew:rant:
i love dogs and kids(some) and as someone has said its not them
there not born naughty.
its the parents, they never tell them to be quite.
they swear and shout alot.:o
my dog only has to opens her mouth to bark
and i'm out telling her to shut up,
there not bothered about anyone else living round here,
i guess its the way we live this day and age,no respect for others/property.
when i was young(many moons ago)oh here we go..lol
if i screamed like there kids i would have had a hiding and sent to bed
for the rest of the day with no tea.
roll on winter i say. then we only have the dogs to put up with.
i dont think the rspca/police will help. if the dogs are fed/water'ed.
i have seen the dogs and they look ok.
the kids play, and of course the dogs are with them.i guess playing
only i cant see over the high hedges..that seperates us..
and as i have said i dont want them took of them,by all means.
if i thought the dogs was being ill treated, i would be the first to report them
you see i'm also a vaulunteer for the cinnimon trust.
i look after dogs in my area
feed them let them out when there owners go in hospital and they
have no family to do it.i do alot for rescues, so i love dogs,
but when you live across from these 2,and the row,
there's only so much one can take.
i'm thinking of being a carer for a dog rescue, so i will get plenty of dogs
maybe if you can't beat them join them..
its payback time:hihi:
